Introduction
Stroke is a disease that significantly leads to death and different types of disabilities worldwide. It occurs when a vessel ruptures or gets blocked by clotting of the blood in the brain. It is estimated that the burden will increase in developing countries compared to those that are already developed. The clotting of the blood causes an ischemic stroke. Time is a very important factor in the treatment of both hemorrhagic and ischemic types of stroke. It is, therefore, vital to put in place measures that control risk factors related to cardiovascular. It is vital to know and understand the warning signs related to it, increasing the number of stroke units, implementation of protocols that respond to this emergency, and also a better reinforcement of the health professionals who will respond to emergencies. A stroke protocol helps to give the ischemic victims of stroke proper and quick medical care to counter the problem. Recently changes have been changes, especially in ischemic stroke on the therapeutic approach of cerebrovascular diseases. For improvement of life and also neurological recovery, new treatments for recanalization emerged. Stroke has a high death toll and results in disabilities if not countered on time. Therefore, it is important to administer the stroke protocol is a quick and effective manner.
The treatment is only helpful in a short period; it does not provide a long-lasting solution to curb the problem at hand. The signs of the Cincinnati scale are facial drop, arm drift, and speech that is slurred. Identifying the Cincinnati scale signs is the first stage of the process of decision making. The next step is to evaluate different factors like age, symptoms, and absence of prior dependence.
It is notable for the nurse to contact the neurologist to begin the code stroke. In the neurological unit, the patient should be observed for ten minutes after the first contact with the triage nurse. A medical evaluation is done on the patient. The evaluation includes a general physical examination, know their clinical background, and a neurological exam (Middleton et al., 2017). It helps to reduce long term disability after a stroke. This therapy is done by delivering medications directly to the brain and also using a stent retriever for removing the clots. The doctors insert a catheter in the groin through an artery. The doctor then threads it to the brain so that it can deliver a tissue plasminogen activator to the place affected by the stroke. The doctor then uses a device to remove the clot. Removing the clot with a retriever is helpful to people who have a large clot that cannot be directly dissolved by the tissue plasminogen activator (Middleton et al., 2017). Removal of the cloth is often combined by injecting the tissue plasminogen activator.
Hemorrhagic stroke treatment focus on controlling bleeding. The treatment also helps to reduce pressure in the brain that is caused by too much blood due to excessive bleeding. Emergency measures like taking medications help to prevent clotting of the blood. The patient is administered to transfusion of blood products or drugs to reduce the effect of the thinner of the blood. The drugs help to lower the pressure of the blood and that in the brain - this helps to prevent seizures and also prevent spasms of the blood vessels. The stroke can also be treated with surgery. In cases where there is excessive bleeding, the doctor needs to perform a surgery and remove the blood, in return, reduce pressure, thus relieving the brain. It also helps to repair blood vessels affected by the stroke (Paul et al., 2016). The surgeon can also stop the bleeding by clipping at the base of the aneurysm to stop blood from flowing into it. Clipping prevents the aneurysm from bursting and also prevent that that has hemorrhaged from continuing to bleed.
After surgery and various treatment, it is essential to monitor the patient for at least one day. The monitoring helps to ensure the patient returns to their normal state. Low resource setting managing acute stroke requires a novel approach. This will help to increase the awareness of stroke, give better, and informed data, and in return, it will help in providing a better measure for preventing and managing the stroke (Paul et al., 2016). It is notable for organizations dealing with health to provide adequate data for both low- and middle-income countries on the management of acute stroke. The management will help to create awareness to the public and also offer training programs that will help to curb stroke.
In summary, it is significant to have a quick response to patients suffering from a stroke. A stroke protocol that is fast and effective should be adopted by all hospital institutions and medical professionals. Delaying a stroke protocol leads to deaths in severe cases, and some, it can lead to disabilities.
