Introduction
Protecting Confidentiality, integrity, and Availability among the clinical staff is essential in a healthcare facility. It is a legal requirement that all the facility to adhere to these three disciplines. However, there is a relationship that links these disciplines to security issues in a healthcare facility. The text below discusses more protecting confidentiality, integrity and availability and their relation to security requited.
Ideally, protecting confidentiality involves an obligation where the clinical staffs have to access the records of patients and ensure that these records are secretly kept to be used by the health officials and the patient only, not anyone else. Keeping the information confidential is the basis of clinical and health ethics. Moreover, the American Health Information Management Association Code of Ethics supports the concept of keeping the patient's information secure; thus, the patients are protected (McBride et al., 2018).
Integrity in clinical facilities may be termed as maintenance of accuracy consistency and reliability of clinical data. Here, the patients' bio-data is computed with all the accurateness so that the results will be open and efficient. However, security and integrity are intertwined whereby, if there is a breach in security measures, the results will be corruption, which will after the complete sense of integrity.
The availability of clinical staff is also very essential in a health facility. People who contribute to hospital care are doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, and other support staff. However, since their roles are essential, their availability also proves to be so important. Thus, when this clinical staff attends to the patients, patients' security is enhanced, and their treatment is facilitated.
HIPAA facilitates confidentiality, integrity, and availability at work by the guidelines stipulated in its formation. The electronic devices used are secure, efficient, and easy to use, thus ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability, respectively. One of the functions of HIPAA is the proportion of standards for securities that protect the information of health (Fiedler 2017). Moreover, the Federal Security rule has set some standards to protect the health information of people.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability are very crucial in the provision of security in healthcare facilities. Clinical staff should uphold these three areas to ensure that there is efficient work done. Moreover, HIPAA addresses the three areas through its standards and guidelines.
