Introduction
My application to the School of Business is aligned with the need of taking up a course in Finance for the award of a Masters' Degree. Born in China, I have always wanted to work in different parts of the globe to increase my scope of business opportunities. People who take up business-related careers are opinionated, risk-takers, and open-minded; as such, I would wish to fit the category. My parents are in support of my decision to apply to your University because of its top-notch services and a key to new experiences. Other courses like those of leadership, problem analysis, and communication skills will also make me competitive. Besides, I have taken business administration as a minor, which will help me to be agile when attending classes. I took an internship that has helped me to construe better what finance entails.
Before this application, I did an undergraduate in Mathematics which improved my logical and application skills. I took up different units ranging from theory analysis of numbers, data analysis, calculus, linear programming, matrices, and business-related courses like financial management which laid a foundation for the profession. Such courses will help me in looking at different financial problems from various angles using a variety of steps to come up with a suitable solution and conclusion. I am also sensitive to numbers and enjoy dealing with anything that involves them. The major (Finance) will help me pursue my passion for construing numbers and business and make it favorable to engage in the learning process. During my internship, I was able to learn a variety of things, including gathering information from various dimensions to allow integration and analysis.
My application is also aligned with my plans and career progression. For example, the acquisition of knowledge and skills in finance and possessing the qualifications of other business-related jobs like financial accounting and banking. My academic plan is to acquire the required skills, knowledge, and to learn its application while in the workplace. Using knowledge acquired from programing, financial statistics, and how to apply them, will allow me to stand a chance in being a skillful and proficient person in my career. Career-wise, my ideal job is to be a financial consultant and an investment banker. I also plan on opening my consultancy firm and partnering with a bank to provide my services to the customers for better financial planning. The internship which I undertook during the undergraduate level will also influence my competency and professionalism during the Masters study and at my future workplace.
My application within the major of Finance is also aligned with the need for broadening my understanding of my undergraduate course in Mathematics that provided a foundation for me. Knowledge and skills that I acquired will be helpful in my career considering their future applicability in academics and career plans. Finance and mathematics are related because they deal with numbers, mainly together with different theoretical models and analysis.
I am equally open-minded, thus willing to learn new things and associate the past learned things with the new ones. I am willing to apply the knowledge I acquired during my internship like communication skills, logical and rational thinking, problem-solving, planning, and teamwork in ensuring proper, efficient, and excellent service delivery. During my time in school, I also learned how to be a leader to my fellow students, practiced active listening, being empathetic, and being a team layer. The use of these skills within your department will be very helpful in creating an environment that is suitable for effective learning and application of knowledge together with perfecting the art of being a professional within the field of finance. Learning from each other helps in creating a rapport amongst colleagues and students who are free to share their ideas, opinions, and even suggestions. Carrying forward such knowledge and skills to the university will benefit everyone holistically.
The other important consideration is in research. The ability for research has been cultivated in me during my undergraduate study in mathematics and especially during my internship. Mathematicians, aim towards looking for new ways of solving mathematical problems or even improving the existing ones. I practiced this, especially in my calculus and statistics classes, since I wanted to be an eclectic mathematician by applying different models of analysis to come up with a conclusion. Additionally, during my internship, I was part of several projects that entailed researching customer information, policies, and procedures, and different problem cases that broadened my understanding of how research is done. Research projects require logical thinking, teamwork, open-mindedness, development of solutions, and critical analysis of the outcome. Therefore I believe that I am a research person. As such, my presence will lead to accurate and researched solutions for problems that may require my attention.
I am equally special, and so is my application because of a variety of reasons, including my ability to process information logically and being empathetic. I can notice a situation, look at it holistically, and take into account other people's thoughts and what can be done to eradicate or minimize the problem. With my sensitivity to numbers, I have incorporated a calculation method out of mind when handling data. I am a team-player and responsible for my duties together with being a social person. I am deemed to attaining the best possible solution that will cause the least harm to people that are faced with the problem. As such, I implore your consideration within your institution.
Northeastern University is, therefore, ideal for my application based on its provision of a path that allows for the development of new ideas, managerial skills, and also facilitate the understanding of functions of financial management within business entities. My story, therefore, matches the visions and missions of the institution of realizing a transformative society. The institution also has a good reputation, and as such, will put me ahead of any pack in any job opportunity.
