Family Migration Experience Essay Example

Migration is an act, which involves the movement of people from one place to another. Migration happens out of a variety of reasons, which might be social, economic, political, or environmental (Bauder & Shields, 2015). The key factors of migration include the push and pull factors. In this context of immigration, a person may be a migrant or a refugee. A migrant may move from one place to another due to economic reasons. E.g., he/she can be interested in investing in another country. A refugee is a person who moves from one place to another due to push factors from his/her usual environment (Bauder & Shields, 2015). This might be contributed to political instability that may trigger civil wars among the nationals of a particular country. This paper, therefore, aims at discussing the migration experience of my family.

I came here 5yrs ago as an immigrant from the parts of northern Africa after experiencing problems of inequality in the country of Egypt. Although I was a learned person, I could not find comfort, as the economic conditions were not appealing. The country was not secure as there were so many riots among the citizens who were raising different agendas such as the state failing economy and lack of gender equality as women were discriminated among other sensitive topics. There were also other political unrests in the whole country that resulted in violence. I was pregnant during this period, and it was in my desire to give my children safe and a better life. Our country became the worst place to live, so we decided to flee for our lives. We flew to North America where we had some of our relatives who had migrated earlier settled.

The reason for migrating into this place was to find peace for ourselves, as I could not tolerate the unfolding of events in our own country. Since I am a skilled physician, I wanted a peaceful environment where I could develop my career and obtain my licenses for the exam qualification since I was unable to acquire one in my country. I also had a desire to become a doctor in this area. I also wanted to live in a place free from political turbulences that threatened the lives of even my kids. I could therefore not sit and watch my life, and that of kids get ruined in a failing state.

. In the midst of the state turbulence we managed to flee, and we settled in the rural parts of Toronto in Canada where we lived as immigrants. This was a new environment for us all. I managed to deliver twins successfully, and I was very happy for having delivered the twins well for I knew that they should at the end have their peace and live a good life. It was a new life that we started in a new land where we had not known our neighbors well.

Since this was a new place of settlement, our first experience in the was not impressing. We were welcomed by a lot of stress when I delivered twins in a new home more so because I had no family to share the joy and happiness. In the midst of this, I incurred financial problems, since most of the savings that I had were already spend on food. It was very ironical, living without food and poor finance bearing in mind I was used to living a Luxurious life in my country as a doctor. Our careers had received a big blow due to lack of access to the right licenses, and this led to our shift in the health management. Although I felt that I had lost my skills, I managed to adapt very well. I had a functional language an ability that boasted my medical background was helping me easy secure a job of which I was able to appreciate myself. I was integrated very well in this place, as I was able to socialize with people creating multiple social links and bridges. The concept of integration, in this case, entails seeking functional relationships with every person across different social stature. This was an important move for every immigrant as it was one of the most profound means to incorporate the immigrants into the culture of the country (Ager & Strang, 2008). Integration in the country helped in ensuring that every person including the immigrants obtains employment just as an interviewee said. It also had other benefits that include access to the right health care as well as schooling. Every interviewee, in this case, was in search of licenses that showed proof of exam qualification, which I failed to obtain due to some financial constraints (Ager & Strang, 2008). The integration concept also entails protecting the rights of immigrants in which the interviewee enjoyed. The government already created an environment that the immigrants could be able to develop social bonds and bridges first (Ager & Strang, 2008).

We faced the financial challenge. This is because I had spent all the money that I had in the first years of settlement and also in trying to obtain the licenses for exam qualifications. You can imagine how life was living without money. The worst of all the challenges was living without a family. This deprived me much as even when I gave birth to twins, and I lacked people to celebrate with. We experienced a lot of challenges in this area. The first challenge was the lack of housing. Being new in this place, nobody could trust us. Hence we failed to find a person to direct us in how we can obtain support from the State government. By this time we were not employed. This was due to lack of licenses or the exam qualification without which you could not be used. This made things worse as we could operate with no source income. The shift of career was also another challenge, which I faced.

Conclusion

Having settled here for numerous years, my family has now formed strong ties with the locals. This has led to its incorporation in the cultures of the locals. My family has been able to construct social bonds and bridges with the locals who have enabled us to share so many cultural practices with them as well as carrying some activities together.

Although we suffered in our first days in this place, our decision of moving here was not in vain. This is because we managed to be integrated well in this place and our safety is assured. We are now capable of getting some jobs in the area as I am working as a medical practitioner. We obtained full adoption as the citizens of this country, and thus we are capable of receiving all public services freely.
