Introduction
The video highlights various ways in which people can scale excellence. Rao, in his definition of excellence, explores different mechanisms over which he describes distinction. He highlights varied meanings of excellence by referring to philosophy and links the description to the Pilato's opine about the subject matter of beating competitors to generate an outcome. Also, Rao refers to this definition by emphasizing on outdoing the benchmark and consistently beating some measures of performance in terms of financial breakthrough (Rao, 2014, 03:53). The video further presents that for firms to succeed, they need to do things differently from others. They should be quick to create an impact on their customers.
From the video, we also learn that successful firms are result-oriented. Rao narrates how the head of engineering responds to him about firing the failed workers who cannot deliver within the business. The acceptance of owning the organization and also being owned by the same firm leads to enterprise success. Moreover, it is a requirement that people make crucial choices in determining their success. The choices depend on whether people are Catholics or Buddhists since either way will determine their achievements in the firm. Lastly, increasing bad things on people increases the load on them, which reduces their ability to perform, hence, minimal chances of becoming successful (Rao, 2014, 13:13).
Application of Class Concepts and Reading
The concepts, readings, and discussions from the class involve the examination of the ten critical factors that influence success in the high performing organizations. Among these concepts include the creation of strategy and focus on every activity conducted in the firm. Rao explains that a firm that grows and becomes more significant may affect the performance of its smart people who may reduce their capacity to deliver excellent results since they may lose focus (Rao, 2014, 07:13). Also, the hotel uses a unique strategy to serve the customers by giving priority to the children eliminating for them the long processes required in the service delivery.
The inspiration of culture of excellence is also a valuable lesson learned in class about high performance. From the video, Rao explains that it is not necessary to employ the bosses who supervise the works. However, using the motivation of achieving success should be sufficient evidence to drive success into them. Surviving failure is also another success factor learned in class. The narration by Rao elucidates how the employees of the Taj Hotel in India managed to save the clients during the terrorist attack. Instead of the cooks throwing themselves out, the cooks saved the customers from helping people out saving their lives. Hence, the hotel invests in the future by keeping the clients who will still consume its products, leading to its success.
Comparing the Class Concepts Using Personal Experience
The achievement of success in high performing organizations depends on the conscious of the brand. Having an attractive brand package by the business promotes its ability to influence more customers to buy from the organization enabling it to sell more. For instance, Amazon has various brands of grocery stores in America, allowing people to shop for different categories of their household requirements. Hence, separate purchases propel the ability of this organization to achieve success in its performance by maximizing its revenue.
On the contrary, mastering small concept to become big may not necessarily lead to high performance by the organization. Due to the stiff competition existing in the market, every business entity can't achieve success by involving in minor activities. Instead, they should focus on majoring on the broader scope of events that enable them to beat their rivals in the market. Hence, not all the approaches learned and discussed in class leads to the high performance of the companies.
