Introduction

The drug distribution system is divided into individual prescription order system where doctors write their prescriptions to patients, and they ask them to get the medicines from medical stores that are licensed and complete floor stock system where drugs are stored in stores, supplied using strict orders to wards and supervised by registered nurses (Begum, 2013). This system consists of two drug types, including charge drugs, where costly drugs are obtained from pharmacies after prescription receipts are acquired for certain patients and non-charge drugs that are commonly used due to their cheap costs.

Medication Administration and Schedule

Medication is given to patients for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Medication administration involves a health practitioner giving a patient medicine after determining the ailment affecting them. The doctors provide a schedule for the patients to follow in using the drugs are given (Simones et al., 2014). It also involves following up on the response of the patient to the drugs and checking for possible effects that the medicine may cause.

Emergency Crash Cart Systems

Crash Cart Systems are essential tools in emergency departments where resuscitation is needed, especially in students that face life-threatening conditions. In cases where acute care is needed, such as cardiac arrests, such systems are required for more successful outcomes to be realized (Jacquet et al., 2018). Crash carts must be fully equipped, maintained, and organized to reduce medication errors and the time taken to retrieve medication for patients.

IV Pumps and Drug Database

Intravenous pumps have gained increased use in hospitals as they aim to reduce errors that may be realized in medication administration. Hospital database reports show that many patients that undergo hip or knee arthroplasty or abdominal surgery receive intravenous medication (Mohanty et al., 2018). IV pumps are designed for safety as they contain features such as alert systems, barcode scanners, and drug library software that are designed to avert medical mistakes.

Drug Waste Handling

The methods that help in handling and safely disposing of drug waste involve minimal effects on the environment and public health, and they contribute to safe, economical procedures of elimination of unusable drugs. The purpose-built high-temperature incineration method is one method that is effective as it ensures there is adequate cleaning of the gases (Ramos et al., 2017). Patients and health practitioners should be educated on how to handle and dispose of drug wastes to avoid environmental risks.
