Lesson Plans - these are the teacher's plans for teaching in a single session. Lesson plans are essential as they give teachers the framework for conducting the lesson and what must be the end goals of the lesson.

Classroom and Student Factors/Grouping - it is the setting where learners get educated. Student factors are the things that are needed for students’ achievement. Student factors are important as they determine the success and achievement rates of students in the administered tests and in following the instructions to pass them.

National/State Learning Standards - they define the knowledge and skills should possess by the time they reach a certain level of education. They are essential in that they dictate what is planned and assessed in the learning process.

Learning Objective - brief and clear statements of what learners are supposed to have acquired at the end of the learning session and the activities that they have done. The achievement of the objectives is important in that the learners will be better prepared to be assessed as taught and that it is evidence that the teachers worked as per their plans.

They are means that provide options for teachers to interact with their learners. Advances the learning objectives and helps towards achieving them.

They are how learners can talk to their teachers and classmates and ask for further explanations. It helps learners demonstrate their understanding of the concepts taught and ask for further clarification.

Also known as teaching methods used in the teaching process. They are instrumental in making sure that learners understand what they are taught and that the objectives are achieved.

Instructional Strategies

Teachers use techniques to make their learners less dependent and strategic as well in dealing with issues. They are instrumental in the achievement of objectives, and developing learners always approach issues with insight.

They are vital questions that are asked during the learning process. They help in making students understand better.

Extension Activity It is activity after the class usually homework with the same aims as that of the class. Aims to assess students' learning progress and how well they understood what was taught.

Guided Practice

Activities that people do while being told how and what to do. It helps ensure the objectives are attained.

Independent Practice

Activities that students are supposed to do on their own. Demonstrates understanding levels of learners and also the achievement of objectives.

Closure

It is the wrapping up of the lesson and assisting students in organizing the information they learned in their minds. Useful in making learners retain what they have learned.

Formal Assessment

Testing learners on what they have learned through exams and other tests. It helps to know how well the concept was taught and what needs to be worked on.

Informal Assessment

Testing learners by not necessarily giving them exams but through random questions and exercises. It also furthers understanding.

Pre-assessment Methods used by teachers to determine the skills and knowledge learners have before instructions. It helps teachers know where to begin their instructions and helps them plot learners' progress.

Formative Assessment

Summative Assessment

Methods of evaluation used by teachers at the end of the lesson by teachers to measure their skills and knowledge base against standard criteria. It helps acknowledge the depth of understanding in learners and evaluate if objectives were achieved or not.

Standardized criteria for assessing students’ work. It helps realize the importance of assessment and gets the exact abilities of learners measured from each other.

Cross-curricular

Teaching mode that involves multiple disciplines. Teach students problem-solving skills, which can be applied in multiple disciplines, increasing their rigor and engagements in learning activities.

The COE lesson template has the materials terminology for the materials that will be used in the lesson. In contrast, in the ELM lesson plan template, it is called instructional materials, technology, and equipment.

The COE template has closure, while ELM has homework.

Both templates follow a logical flow in how the activities are organized.

Both of the templates are divided into subsections of the main parts.

Differences in Organization between the two templates

The COE lesson plan is compact with different parts together, while ELM is more elaborate.

The COE lesson plan follows Madeline Hunter's format, while ELM does not.
