Part 1

The main aims of the study include; to explore the perception of nurses regarding their involvement and role in children protection as well as to identify the relevant or perceived barriers to various nurses having a role to play in the protection of the children (Land & Barclay, 2008).

The article also indicates that most nurses feel that there is a significant role of the public surveillance as well as community- based nursing in promoting child protection within the society (Land & Barclay, 2008). As such, the government should ensure the planning of social services as well as building supportive communities that are less intrusive, thus resulting in the provision of family-friendly support and monitoring systems to young children.

The article also noted that child protection workers are often unnecessarily secretive. As such, there is a need for the adoption of a strong interagency and interdisciplinary approaches to the protection of the child based on the respect and equal status with clearly defined guidelines as well as sharing of information to help in the reduction of any abuse incidences. Most fundamentally, domestic violence predisposes young children to high risks of harm (Land & Barclay, 2008). Therefore, the lack of sharing of information between the community health services and maternal services is a serious concern, particularly as far as child protection is concerned within the society.

Concisely, the article notes that several factors significantly influence the understanding of the various nurses of their legislative and professional requirements in children protection. Such factors include; lack of development opportunities as well as education about the protection of the children.

Part 2: Critique Responses

The researcher of the article used interviews in qualitative research to identify the perceptions of various nurses of the role that they have in child protection. As such, purposive sampling was used since the research involved the study of a particular population characteristic relevant in addressing the research question -in this case, the nurses.

The data collection was focussed on human experience i.e., the nurses' knowledge of their role and involvement in children protection (Land & Barclay, 2008). The researcher also ensured that the protection of humans was addressed through ensuring that all the participants in the research signed a consent form in which they agreed to be interviewed and their responses recorded.

To ensure their confidentiality was safeguarded, the researcher appropriately provided that some vital information about the participants, such as their places of work did not include in the various quotations that were made by the participants (Land & Barclay, 2008). The researcher employed the use of interviews to ensure that all the participants had equal chances to address the various areas of concern. The data analysis was done consistently through the use of the manual thematic coding of concepts. However, the researcher has not addressed the credibility of the data, although the analysis criteria for data conformed with the data collection method.
