Part One: Summary
The study on health sciences and the related issues helps us the nurses and other health professionals to gain more knowledge that we can use in our profession and which can help us to perform with more accuracy and fewer errors. Personally, will use the knowledge about health planning and evaluation to improve my performance in the nursing profession. Medical errors are some of the major challenges that affect the operations in the medical sector and the topics learned in schools help to minimize the errors and their impacts. Some of the most interesting topics include health planning and evaluation, which involves planning the way health services are delivered to the patients and an evaluation of how effective and successive these services are. The topic covers a wide range of critical issues related to health services. The other topic of interest is public health planning which explains how public health is managed and how to achieve the best out of it. The topic gives a lot of knowledge to the students about the way the public health operates. It also indicates the different ways in which public health can be managed to reduce operational costs.
The other interesting topic is discharge planning because it explains the way the discharge is handled and managed. The topic is interesting because it covers a wide range of things that happen in the healthcare sector daily. The topic that closely relates to this is the family planning and family health which also covers a wide range of issues that health specialists deal with daily. The most interesting among these is the health planning and evaluation because it is wide and more detailed about the different things that affect the human body and how to achieve the best results when offering treatment. My hope in this study is to learn different ways in which health planning is done and how I will evaluate my work to determine the performance level in the future.
Part Two: Annotated Bibliography
Bourcier, E., Charbonneau, D., Cahill, C., & Dannenberg, A. L. (2015). Peer-reviewed: An evaluation of health impact assessments in the United States, 2011-2014. Preventing chronic disease, 12.
The study analyzed the results of the health impact assessments and used data from a three-year evaluation. The study used the retrospective and mixed methods which included visits to the sites, review of the available data, and interviews conducted on the key stakeholders and decision-makers. The data was collected in sixteen states and this was done between 2005 and 2013. The results of the study indicate that the data used in the health impact assessment can be applied in a wide range of situations, and this way the assessment can help to made decisions within and outside the health sector. It can also be used to raise awareness among the health practitioners. The research is peer-reviewed and it will be useful in the research because it will show how such assessment reports can help in health planning and evaluation.

The authors of this source analyzed the public health planning and how it affects the delivery of services in the sector. The source used the suicidal attempts reports to analyze the way better planning can reduce the suicide cases. The authors explain how healthcare planning can be used to achieve different goals.
Luke, D. A., Calhoun, A., Robichaux, C. B., Elliott, M. B., & Moreland-Russell, S. (2014). Peer Reviewed: The Program Sustainability Assessment Tool: A New Instrument for Public Health Programs. Preventing Chronic Disease, 11.
The study gives an analysis of the sustainability of the healthcare as a project. It gives different views that indicate that just like in business and social services, health care services can be managed like projects and they need high sustainability efforts. The conditions in which the health planning and evaluation are done determines the type of sustainability required. The study used 592 participants from 252 public health programs and determined that the Program Sustainability Assessment Tool (PSAT) can be used to manage healthcare planning.
Moore, G. F., Audrey, S., Barker, M., Bond, L., Bonell, C., Hardeman, W., ... & Baird, J. (2015). Process evaluation of complex interventions: Medical Research Council guidance. BMJ, 350, h1258.
The study explains the different issues that are related to the use of process evaluation tactics. The authors explain the main reasons why process evaluation is essential in healthcare. The article gives a comprehensive analysis of the process evaluation and the implementation, mechanism, and context associated with the public health planning. The authors also suggest a systematic approach that can be used to achieve the maximum benefits in the health planning process. The article will be useful in providing information about the way public health can be planned to increase the benefits of the planning process.
Posavac, E. J. (2015). Program evaluation: Methods and case studies. Routledge.
The author of the study analyzed the effectiveness of the social, medical and educational programs that are funded by the government and how it affects the lives of the citizens. The federal support offered to these programs also affects their rate of success. The study will be used to analyze how health planning is affected by the federal planning and assessment activities.
Weathers, E., O'Caoimh, R., Cornally, N., Fitzgerald, C., Kearns, T., Coffey, A., ... & Molloy, D. W. (2016). Advance care planning: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials conducted with older adults. Maturitas, 91, 101-109.
The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of having advance planning for the older people and how it affects the services they get in the healthcare system. The importance of this study is that it will shed more light on the diverse planning functions in healthcare and how to assess the effectiveness of these strategies.
White, K. M., Dudley-Brown, S., & Terhaar, M. F. (Eds.). (2016). Translation of evidence into nursing and health care. Springer Publishing Company.
The study is based on the way medical evidence is collected and used in the health operations and how nursing and healthcare processes can be improved if there is adequate evidence for use in the treatment processes. The study was based on an analysis of data collected in the healthcare sector for the past two years and which was used to compare the quality of healthcare between the time that evidence was available and the time that the evidence was not available. The study will be useful in analyzing the different ways that health planning and evaluation will provide evidence to be used in the provision of healthcare services.
World Health Organization. (2015). Global technical strategy for malaria 2016-2030. World Health Organization.
In health planning and assessment, one of the main goals is to eradicate the common diseases that affect the society. In this study, the World Health Organization explains the ways in which the fight against malaria is planned, effected and assessed to determine its success. The Global Technical Strategy for Malaria from 2016 to 2030 is explained in the study and this will help to compare the information in this source with other projects and planning strategies in other sources.
World Health Organization. (2016). Global strategy on human resources for health: workforce 2030.
In a different way, the World Health Organization, explains the way human resources are planned and allocated in healthcare. The aim is to explain the effectiveness of having a good planning of the human resources, which is one of the ways to ensure there is an effective delivery of services in healthcare.
Part Three: Literature Review
The delivery of health care services is critical to any country as it helps to reduce the mortality rate as well as improve the productivity of the society. However, it is affected by several factors that reduce the effectiveness of the programs used in the delivery of these services. Proper planning and assessment help to maintain a good quality of services. The United States healthcare department uses proper planning to reduce the impacts of chronic diseases (Bourcier, Charbonneau, Cahill, & Dannenberg, 2015). The World Health Organization (2016) explains the ways in which strategic planning in health care affects the delivery of services and this includes the fight against malaria. The same sentiments were shared by Ginter, Duncan, and Swayne (2018) that better planning helps to improve the quality of services offered and increases the services capacity and helps to meet the demand. The research on health planning and evaluation will help to reduce the errors experienced in healthcare.
The other concern is the use of evidence-based views in healthcare. According to Brownson, Baker, Deshpande, and Gillespie (2015), the use of evidence-based strategies in healthcare increases accuracy and the growth of better services. For example, evidence from research can be used to make decisions on the delivery of services. Moore et al. (2015) state that in complex situations, the use of assessment tools helps to meet the targets set by the healthcare professionals. In the case of disease control, the complexity can be reduced by having a reliable planning and evaluation of all processes and reducing the errors in healthcare. The evidence found in the nursing profession can be translated into services and planning tools in the provision of better care to patients (White, Dudley-Brown, & Terhaar, 2016). The search for better services can drive the nurses into becoming more creative in planning the ways to provide the best results in healthcare.
The sustainability of the programs and plans in healthcare are critical and affect the success of the health care programs to a large extent (Luke, Calhoun, Robichaux, Elliott, & Moreland-Russell, 2014). However, it is essential to have good planning and assessment methods. The same views were echoed by Issel and Wells (2017), whereby they evaluated the need to have a good planning and evaluation strategy which ensures that the healthcare process goes on as planned. The program evaluation of the services and programs helps to meet the diverse needs of the healthcare programs. However, they need adequate evaluation to ensure they do not fail before they achie...
