Introduction
Undertaking the decision of whether to have a vasectomy is considered as one of the most personal choices. Many men are in constant fear of having the snip due to the belief that it will cause a series of problems both during sex and prolonged healing time. On the contrary, most of the men leave in constant fear of not being able to regain their potential power once again should the need to expand the family arises. Even though the decision undertaken in this situation involves a change in the general orientation of the male reproductive system, there are several pros and cons to be considered, that are associated with the procedure. Thus the essay will critically elucidate on both sides of the debate to help cast a better understanding of the pros and cons of having a vasectomy.
According to Patel and Smith, (2016), a vasectomy is a delicate surgical procedure that sterilizes a man with the primary aim of preventing him from fathering children. The process is geared at cutting the vas deferens, fragile tubes that carry sperms from the testes to the penis (Machen, et al., 2019). Even though the procedure of vasectomy may be geared towards creating a safety mechanism, the process does not work immediately, posing significant threats to the subject.
It is essential to realize that vasectomy poses a threat to the male who has undergone the procedure. According to analytical research, some men who have undertaken this process have reported constant pain within their first months. Additionally, some report the continuous pain in the testicles after fewer months of undergoing the procedure (Husby, Wohlfahrt, & Melbye, 2020). Despite the constant pain, some of the men leave under the constant worry of not being healthy and fertile.
Men who have undertaken the procedure have to leave with a constant fear of not having children once again. Even though experts argue that there are several possibilities of re-joining the tubes once again, this does not guarantee the man becoming a father once more. As a result, the complexity of the process poses a lot of danger to the male. Despite the side effects of the process, there are numerous benefits associated with the process.
Experts who have conducted extensive research on the matter have concluded that vasectomy offers a 99% birth control process, as there are no potential possibilities of the sperms fusing with the ovaries (Aboumarzouk, Jenkins, & Chlosta, 2019). Through this, the partners can freely enjoy sex without any fears of unplanned pregnancies. As a result, this acts a suitable birth control method, as opposed to other concepts that women have to undertake.
Vasectomy is a minor procedure, which is faster to implement and have it done after taking the decision (Mucci et al., 2020). Among one of the prominent methods of birth control on women is tubal ligation, which has to occur after she has finished having children. The process is long and tedious with a higher degree of complications. In this case, the process may take longer as compared to vasectomy.
Conclusion
In the bottom line, the ideology surrounding vasectomy has been a debatable factor, considering the pros and cons of the procedure. However, the benefit of the process is a personal choice that should be considered by the individual willing to have safer and permanent birth control.
