Introduction
Thyroid disease in adults between the age of 35and 65 is one of the most prevailing health conditions. It is a disease that affects the functioning of the thyroid gland which is responsible for production of thyroid hormones (Neema, Sharda & White, 2019). Thyroid hormone is responsible for the regulation of infant development, energy use, childhood and childhood development and all the functioning of all the other organs in the body (Kothiwale & Panjwani, 2016). The thyroid gland is an endocrine organ. Therefore, physicians have been dedicated in health promotion to prevent and treat thyroid disease since it is one of the key causes of high mortality rates among adults (Neema, Sharda & White, 2019). This paper aims at discussing the concepts of health promotion, health maintenance, health restoration and health teaching to adults with Thyroid disease.
Health promotion focuses on maintaining and restoration of public health. Some of the strategies used in health promotion include communication, education through seminars and policy development (Neema, Sharda & White, 2019). Health restoration, maintenance and health teaching are strategies under health promotion (Neema, Sharda & White, 2019). Health maintenance involves efforts to maintain a healthy life of the people in the community. Heath restoration involves efforts to restore people's health through treatments and providing various ways of disease prevention (Neema, Sharda & White, 2019). Heath teaching is a strategy in health promotion that aims at creating awareness of health maintenance, restoration, and prevention strategies of a particular disease. The four concepts are interrelated.
Health promotion in patients with thyroid disease is crucial in restoration and maintenance of the patient's health. Some of the lifestyle causes of thyroid disease among adults include lifestyle behaviors such as cigarette smoking and alcohol (Kothiwale & Panjwani, 2016). The government can promote health in patients with thyroid disease by increasing the taxes and the prices of cigarettes and alcohol to discourage their consumption. Health personnel can also promote health in thyroid through communication to create awareness of the adverse effects of the disease. This can be achieved through advertisements in the radios, TVs and other social media platforms (Neema, Sharda & White, 2019). Health maintenance in thyroid disease patients can be achieved through health promotion and provision of alternative prevention strategies for thyroid disease. Health restoration can be achieved through provision of affordable patient care to the Thyroid disease patients to ensure that they are well treated and their health resorted.
Health teaching in thyroid disease patients can be achieved through strategies such as seminars and other education programs with the aim of creating awareness in patients about the prevention strategies of thyroid disease. Health teaching is one of the key strategies in health promotion (Azizi et al., 2017). It is through health teaching that people can change their health beliefs, culture and behaviors to help prevent and manage thyroid disease in the community. For instance, through health teaching, patients can be aware that tobacco smoking introduces a high amount of chemicals in the human body which adversely affect the thyroid gland in a variety of ways (Azizi et al., 2017). Tobacco causes a decline in the serum and increase in the serum free thus worsening iodine deficiency. Also, health teaching gives awareness of the treatment options for thyroid disease with the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment option (Azizi, et al., 2017). Aging patients are able to understand the importance of prevention and treatment of the disease and therefore, they willingly opt to adopt healthy behaviors.
Conclusion
In conclusion, health promotion, health restoration, health maintenance and health teaching concepts are interrelated and work hand in hand. Health restoration, maintenance and teaching are strategies in health promotion. Health promotion can be achieved through changing of policies to change the behaviors thyroid disease patients to enhance health restoration and maintenance. Health promotion can be achieved through communication through social media platforms, seminars and other education programs. Health restoration can be achieved through provision of affordable and quality care to thyroid disease patients to help restore their health. Heath teaching aims at creating awareness to the aging community about the prevention and treatment strategies of thyroid disease. Also, health teaching aims at creating awareness about the adverse effects of thyroid disease and the importance of its prevention and treatment.
