Introduction

Mixed anxiety and depression are common in people with substance use dependency and it is a major problem for them. The goal of this scholarly project is to determine whether using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) can positively affect the evaluation of depression and anxiety incidences in a 24-hour residential chemical housing unit. The researcher uses the Diffusion of Innovation Theory as the theoretical framework to explain how the new idea can spread within dependence centers.

Dissemination Methods

In this scholarly project, the researcher will use a variety of strategies to disseminate the results to the participants, participating agency, clinicians, and researchers, who comprise the target audience for this research.

Study Newsletters

The researcher will distribute a regular newsletter summarizing the study findings. The newsletter is an effective way to update the study participants, the participating agency and clinicians (Tripathy, Bhatnagar, Shewade, Kumar, Zachariah, & Harries, 2017). The research findings will also be featured in the residential housing unit's newsletters.

The researcher will also ask agencies such as National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD), which may be interested in this research topic to add the research findings and information in their websites and publications. A research summary document concisely and clearly summarizes the key conclusions from every research project. This summary document will be made available in the residential housing unit and to patients involved in the research. In addition, a softcopy version of the document will be published online. Based on the article by Bong and Ale Ebrahim (2017), the document will use specific terms that are known by clinicians in the psychiatry field.
