Introduction
Healthcare advocacy forms a fundamental aspect of patient-centered health-related services. It gives an insight into the rights of patients and knowledgeable information regarding the healthcare system. This is possible given the fact that its aids in educating the patients and gives desirable paths to good healthcare services. One should, therefore, understand that to be proficient at a subject or skill there are often essential techniques that can make a person successful. Just like any other skills, health advocacy requires the application of certain basic skills/techniques to ensure it is successful within the health facilities and delivery of services. This essay, therefore, presents and analyze four basic skills/techniques for healthcare advocacy. These include Value Clarifying, Analytic, Influence-using, and Interactional.
Value Clarifying Skills
Value clarifying skills are psychotherapy techniques that aid in increasing awareness of an individual value that is important towards a given decision or action. This skill is important since it aid in understanding the underlined precepts and regulations about the perceived contextual factors within healthcare. As a result, any kind of assets and liabilities within the health system can be located, and immediate action is carried out. Most importantly, value clarifying skills can be employed in the healthcare profession to triage consumers or patients if they require any form of advocacy. In this respect, the above skill is vital towards determining which consumers need help most especially the vulnerable populations. This shows social justice as well as equity in the delivery of health services.
Influence Using Skills
This kind of technique depicts how health professionals can employ their skills to influence the daily operation of the healthcare system. The technique is vital since it can be employed to convince other health practitioners like the supervisors on whether a given patient requires the intervention of case advocacy. For instance, it can be employed when a health professional advises the hospital on some of the health-related ethics that should be addressed.
Interactional Skills
This skill indicates the manner in which a professional health practitioner can employ social interaction to effectively communicate with consumers who are in this case the patients. The skill is vital since it helps towards developing the listening skills that can be used to determine if patients have received better health services or if by any chance their health rights have been bridged by the staff (Jansson, 2011). This enables social workers to advocacy with consumers on issues regarding service delivery. Additionally, this skill is vital since it can aid in communicating with consumers towards diagnosing information pivoting optimal care within the facility.
Analytic Skills
Analytic skills are those techniques that enable one to visualize, conceptualize, and articulate complex issues by making rational decisions by the help of the available information. The above skill can be used to develop strategies or goals that are viable towards attaining specific set objectives of the health care services (Jansson, 2011). Making a desirable decision can also help towards hindering any form of liability in the healthcare system. Analytical skill can help in determining the best strategies to make liabilities result in better and profitable outcomes within an organization.
Recommendation
It is clear that the above four techniques help toward increasing productivity and efficiency of healthcare advocacy. The four techniques are recommended since they ensure the successful delivery of services within the healthcare system. The four skills are recommended and should be employed by healthcare providers to ensure smooth operation and delivery of care to patients.
