Introduction

In general, dissemination refers to the strategies and mechanisms employed to create awareness as well as provide information to a particular group of people. The ultimate goal of nursing research is to disseminate the outcomes, therefore, adding value to the field of nursing (Forsyth, 2015). Consequently, dissemination of evidence-based practice (EBP) and research is an integral part of professional practice.

Dissemination Strategies

This may include unit-level or organisational-level presentations, poster presentations, and podium presentations at organisational, local, regional, state, and national levels, as well as publication in peer-reviewed journals. I would be most inclined to the following two strategies:

Journal Article

One of the strategies I would employ to communicate EBP would be writing of a journal article. I would preferably write an article for the Nursing Research and Practice journal, and it has to be peer-reviewed and an open-access journal. A journal article is best because it usually publishes a wide range of information, including clinical studies, reviewed articles, and also original research articles across all areas of nursing (Forsyth, 2015). The main focus of the Nursing Research and Practice journal is sharing data/information to support EBP and nursing research. It considers articles of all the healthcare aspects such as community nursing, ethical issues, nursing education, healthcare systems as well as policy, and specialist nursing topics. Making the article an open access-type would give me an upper hand because such articles would be accessed by the general public, thereby eliminating discrimination among recipients who need the information. Besides, when the article is peer-reviewed, then it means that academics and experts have cross-checked the article, therefore, rendering it an authentic source.

Nursing Conference

The other dissemination strategy would be through a nursing conference. This approach falls under the category of podium presentations at a national level. A profound example of a nursing conference is the World Nursing and Healthcare Conference (Nursing Conferences). A recent conference (the 25th) was held on July 11 and 12, 2019 in Vienna, Austria. The central theme of the conference was "current challenges and innovations in nursing education and healthcare." Conference Series LLC Ltd is one that sponsors this conference. Besides, the company has organised more than 1000 conferences all over the United States, Asia, and Europe (Fineout-Overholt, 2017). The company has also supported several societies apart from publishing over 700 open access journals. Given this, it can be seen that through the conference, EBP research would reach an international audience besides being published for global access. The conference also provides a competitive ground for many practitioners to be chosen to showcase their research, therefore, encouraging advanced research.

I would not be inclined to use some of the strategies because of their limited reach to a broader audience. A good example is a presentation to unit-level or organisation-level. For such a strategy, only a portion of the nursing practitioners would be addressed, therefore restricting the scope of the research. When this is compared to the use of journal articles and nursing conferences, it appears to be a less aggressive strategy.

In as much as the use of journal articles and nursing, conferences are my best choices, and they bear challenges. For the use of journal articles, and for it to be peer-reviewed, it would take time to be reviewed by other experts, therefore, posing a risk of the research being obsolete during its publication. It is also expensive if there is no one sponsoring the publication process. As for the nursing conference, the limitation lies in the ability to be awarded a chance of participating in addressing the audience. It requires one to have solid research that can outshine the rest; competition usually is stiff. All of these barriers can be overcome independently. For one to succeed in publishing a peer-reviewed and open-access journal, they have to be connected to fellow experts in that field so that they can exert pressure for the work to be quickly reviewed. Also, someone has to source for early funding from the organisation they work in so that financial constraints do not slow the publication process. As for the nursing conference approach, they have to come up with reliable and advanced research which would offer a competitive advantage when vetting is being carried out. Also, having necessary connections (knowing people) is essential for one to be granted a chance to participate in the conference.
