Introduction

The community health education plan in California, aims to enhance healthy eating among the aged people and reduce the high rate of lifestyle diseases. This is due to the rising number of diseases caused by the consumption of more sugar. The main factor that leads to the consumption of these foods is the lifestyles adopted by many people in America.

Program Goals

The community health education plan will promote less consumption of sugar among urban people who are more likely to be affected by the heart diseases due to less body exercise. The urban population very often engages in activities that require less energy. The community health education plan will also encourage people regardless of their age and occupation to exercise regularly and avoid the build up excess sugars in the form of fat. It is important to note that most urban dwellers in California engage in white collar jobs. These people spend most of their time seated behind a chair attending to their office duties and chores. The only movement within several hours is swinging a chair to look for or hand over some items. This reduces the body activities that are responsible for burning out the excess sugars consumed in food. The office folks also have a high tendency to consume processed foods by making orders from food stores during the day. Most of these foods contain more sugars and these are stored as fats when the body is unable to burn or metabolize them (Banerjee &Eisenberg 2004).

After a day's work in the office, the urban population drives home. This is marked by stop overs at food joints where people take snacks and other cakes which contain more sugar. Very few people exercise when they get home even taking simple exercises such as sits ups, jogging or press ups. These body activities are very important in ensuring muscle strength and endurance. Muscle strength is the ability of the body muscles to respond to contractions while muscle endurance is the ability of the body to supply enough oxygen as demanded by the body. Oxygen is an important gas that is needed by the body for aerobic respiration. Muscular strength in blood vessels is needed to ensure sufficient circulation of blood in the body. The people who works in offices are therefore are a greater risk of heart failure due to accumulation of fats in the blood vessels. When blood is pumped at high pressure, the resistance to the normal flow due to the reduced vessel cavity makes the vessels to burst open. In case of vessels that relay blood to the heart, there is immediate death (McMurray et.al. 1999).

Program Objectives

I believe that the community health education plan will educate the people on the importance of body activities for healthy living among the urban population in California. This will be achieved through training people on developing a regular daily exercise program after working. The plan will help the people identify simple activities that they can easily engage in while in the house. This are less capital and time intensive and includes sits ups, press ups and an evening walk in the neighborhood after working in the office.

The plan will promote the consumption of organic foods other than the ready processed foods. Maintaining a kitchen garden is a vital tool that shall be taught to them. Working on the garden also contributes to body activities hence breakdown of excess sugars. The plan will also emphasize on the importance of regular checkups among the people. This is because monitoring the level of fats in the body is very vital in determining what a person should eat. This plan will reduce the high rates of heart diseases among urban population in California.
