Achieving DNP Essentials I

To achieve the DNP Essentials I's competencies, I have already taken some steps in learning how to integrate my practice with knowledge based in the ethics, psychosocial, and organizational sciences. I have decided to start with these three areas since it will enable a gradual adoption of the integrated practice. Therefore, by taking into account these areas, I am able to touch on various patient factors which will ensure they are fully recovered and highly satisfied with the care offered to them (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). The science based theories and concepts have also been quite useful in my nursing practice. Since I can now understand the nature of health and the significance of health care delivery, I am able to focus on the aspects which directly impact the patients.

For instance, I now know that health is not just of the flesh, but of the mind as well. When caring for patients, I need to consider a holistic approach to ensure they are discharged after they are fully recovered. I have developed a better understanding of the various actions and strategies that can be used to enhance health and the process of health care delivery.

It has taken quite a long time before I could grasp the use of specific strategies to evaluate and introduce measures to guarantee quality health care. However, with the presence of technology, I am able to use various software to ensure errors are minimized, and patient care is improved significantly. Therefore, no patient is given the wrong medications that would have otherwise impacted their health negatively.

Lastly, I have learnt how to conduct research and use evidence-based practice to promote my practice. By conducting primary and secondary research, new concepts and ideas are developed, which can also be implemented in the patient care process. These factors have contributed significantly to my nursing practice.

DNP Essential II

In relation to DNP Essential II, I have been able to improve my focus on the patient needs by being able to consider the target population, a specific part of the population, or the broad community. This has enabled me to identify new care delivery models that are in line with science as we know it today. My interest in both the organization and policy arenas have also contributed to the achievement of these policies.

I am able to consider the ways through which quality improvement strategies can lead to better care. The same has also enabled the effective analysis of risks and how to manage them. Without these risks, it becomes possible to use medical equipment and strategies that have been proven to be quite effective for patient care.

The ability to use advanced communication skills and processes have ensured that there is an improvement in the quality and safety measures being used in the healthcare environment. I am able to integrate the use of principles from various disciplines such as business, finance, economics, and health policy (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006). Therefore, the outcome is a cost effective practice that will not compromise the quality of care awarded to patients.

In conclusion, both the DNP I and II have been quite important in the improvement of the quality of services offered to patients. They not only involve the integration of various disciplines, but also the use of technology to ensure that services are cost effective and risk free.
