It has just been a couple of weeks since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in China, Europe, and America. It has only been a few days since the WHO declared the COVID-19, a global pandemic that had now invaded all the nations across the globe. Around this time, too, those of us in the United States had been asked to change our ways of working and living, mainly by following the guidelines and measures provided by the WHO, and the CDC is trying to address and curb this severe global pandemic. This date was March 13th (World Health Organization, 2020; Atkeson, 2020).

On this day, in the US, President Trump declared a National Emergency and required that all efforts and attention from everyone in the county be directed towards the COVID-19. On the same day, Europe was declared an epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, with more new cases and deaths reported in every European nation and territory (Ravelo & Jerving, 2020). In the words of the WHO director, Europe reported more cases combined than recorded in China alone at the height of the pandemic (Ravelo & Jerving, 2020). Other nations across the world, such as Kazakhstan, Sudan, Puerto Rico, Antigua and Barbuda, Kenya, and Suriname, also reported their first cases. The increasing number of cases thus implied that the COVID-19 had now invaded nearly all the nations across the world.

For me, this was a challenging day in many ways. Firstly, it was not easy to begin embracing some of the things that I had never done in my life before. This was a time in my life when it was easy to think and fear for others as well. The increase in the death toll in the US every single day relayed a picture in my mind about how mortal and helpless human beings were, especially when stricken by the reality that one has to deal with the dangers brought about by the COVID-19 (Ravelo & Jerving, 2020). Social distancing and wearing the face mask became my major every day ordeal. Keeping one meter through social distancing further worsened my state (Surveillances, 2020). It was even challenging to associate and interact with my family members and siblings to fear of being infected or infecting them. I am worried about my classmates who recently travelled to their home countries in China, Europe, and Africa.

It was on this day that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Groups advised employees at their Washington headquarters to operate and work from home. This was after an IMF employee was confirmed positive (Ravelo & Jerving, 2020). Ideally, working from is something that I had never imagined of, leave alone the thought whether the act of operating from home would be possible. It meant that all the operations of major public institutions had been suspended, and thus, students had to study from home. The travel ban and looing lockdown of the entire nation presented a clear picture to me regarding how things were getting worse. Being a student who has a huge interest in economic and social issues that prevails in the US, temporary lockdown, and the travel restriction meant that no airline was allowed to operate. No person was allowed to move outside the country. As far as the situation is concerned, I foresaw a tremendous economic downfall and massive loss of revenue by our major public and private companies. This would be later followed by enormous retrenchment and job loss.

While it is evident that the March 13th dawned on me that the COVID-19 was a global killer pandemic that had come to wipe the world, I have continued to see numerous milestone achievements from various stakeholders within our nations. Both the federal and state governments are playing critical roles in implementing the measures that are meant to curb the spread and flatten the pandemic's curve. Though still not enough, the Trump administration has played a critical role in attempting to reduce the further spread of this deadly virus. I am also grateful to everyone who is directly working on this global killer.

A concerted effort from the greater American community reminds and motivates me to ensure that we as the society is capable of doing what we can to help fight the COVID-19 through adequate funding. The part that us further played by our health care professionals and research scientists is unmentionable. Being exposed to the dangerous virus every day in the line of duty is a call of passion. This is the only opportunity for the people of the greater America to ensure that they do their part purposely to prevent future pandemics from having such a strong grip on the lives of many people.

As global citizens, this is the moment we need one another locally and globally. It is true that we have new shared experiences that everyone should learn from in new ways. It is also another perfect time to make consideration whether or not the international and national healthcare systems are workable and can assist the global population.
