Introduction
One of the most current events discussed in the news is whether someone could walk home from work, at a distance of three miles per hour and how long it would take. Some of the questions asked are if at the event of walking a person gets sick, would they cut short their travel or would they continue walking home? This discussion is brought fought due to the sudden rise in the economy which continues to go upwards. The price of diesel and regular gasoline is in a continuous surge (FFS Live, n.d). IN July 2018, it was reported that a man in the United States walked to work from home, a distance of twenty miles. The man, Walter, did not want to miss his first day at work due to a breakdown by his car. Being a cross country runner, he figured he would manage the twenty miles on foot. The story went viral on social media with people commenting on how the young man was humble and cheerful and how everyone was in awe. The young man's boss gave him his car, according to the news by the NBC.
Addressing a similar issue, Stacey Abrams said that the power and strength of Americans lied on their ability to work hard and believe more on themselves (BBC News, n.d). The first step, in her opinion, is to think that success is not a guarantee and that we live in a nation full of possibilities. In the current society, most Americans are living a life of paycheck to paycheck, hardly affording any luxury of their own, women and men can only thrive if they support the freedom in doing so. It is noticeable from these that while the economy of Americans continues to get better, there are possible personal financial problems that worry people. The extra tension can be managed by the use of healthy strategies to manage stress, such as walking, during the tough economic times.
Flip side: what if I was sitting on the other side of the table? What would I be thinking and what would I want?
BBC News reports that most purposeless deaths have been caused by walking, with people not differentiating between walking for is own sake, walking to think and walking due to financial constraints. On the flip side, I consider walking to be a luxury that I am not obliged to do all the time. Walking at such a large distance is something I would have planned to do for quite a long duration of time. This would be to keep myself fit, lose weight or maybe some form of movement that involved a protest rather. I would say Walter is a hero for walking such miles, and perhaps i might not be one due to the fact that I would probably not go to work at all. I have read about people in history who would walk for inspiration like Virginia Wolf, and those who were just walkers and were recognized for it, such as Charles Dickens who often walked at night. There are many values of walking with nearly all journeys made by foot, on an entirely different perspective; it would be just fine, if people walked home from work and vice versa. This would create a healthy generation.
