The bible is a long text that is both inspiring and confusing at the same time. To understand the Scripture, its best to understand biblical text categories. The biblical books were written by different authors all inspired by God at different times. There are 40 acknolwdg4d authors of the biblical scriptures but what is interesting is the fact that a constant storyline is exhibited all though. The bible is therefore referred to as the book of books since as one took inside other books are featured. In total, there are 66 books in the text and the bible is divided into two parts which are the New Testament and the Old Testament.

The Old Testament has thirty-nine books featured while the New Testament has 27 books. By examining the Bible, it is evident a specific systematic procedure is followed. For example, the first book of the bible is Genesis which narrate the origin of man and the origin of the Israelites. Also, we can say the book of Genesis illustrate Gods plan and relationship with the world. At the end of the Bible, there is the book of revelations that talk about the second coming of Christ, visions, and things yet to come. Although God is the ultimate author of the Bible, the inspired authors wrote the bible in different languages, time and style and this created a variance in their stories.

Canon of the Old Testament Law Books

The first five books are referred to as the law books also known as Torah books or Pentateuch. These books include genesis, exodus, numbers, Deuteronomy and Leviticus and they mostly talk about the early life of Israelites in no particular order. They are also referred to as the law book since they have spelled out the laws the Israelites were expected to follow and punishments, and a good example is a case of the Israelites in the wilderness after closing the red sea. Also, they have the Ten Commandments Christian laws in order from first to last in the book of, Deuteronomy.

Prophetic Books

The prophetic book talks of the prophetic works of famous prophets such as Jerimiah, Samuel, and Isaiah who were the most renowned prophet. The major prophetic books include Isaiah, Jerimiah, lamentation, Ezekiel's, Daniel. There are other minor prophetic books featured and they include Joel, Amos, Hosea, Jonah, Habakkuk, Micah, Nahum, Zachariah, Haggai, Zephaniah, Malachi and Obadiah.in total, there are 17 prophetic books. The categorization of prophetic books as major and minor is based on the sizes of the text. The Major Prophets books are large than the Minor Prophets books.

Historical Books

The historical books are 12 in number in the old protestant testament. The historical books follow a chronological order of the Jewish history since the era of Abraham to Moses, David and beyond. The books include Judges, Joshua, Ruth, Samuel 1anad 2, kings 1and 2, chronicles 1and 2, Nehemiah, Ezra, and Esther.

Poetic Books

They are five in number and are referred to as wisdom literature. All these books are placed together as Solomon authored them. They include job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon.

New Testament

The New Testament revolves around the story of Jesus Christ, the beginning of Christianity and Jesus Christ follower. Just like the Old Testament the authors of the New Testament bused different languages, age and style to write the text and as a result, the books can be categorized into different categories.

The Gospel Books

The gospel books are the first four books of the new testaments that talk mostly about the life of Christ birth till death. These books are Matthew, Mark, Luke, John.

Historical Book

The New Testament has one historical book, which is acts

Epistles or Letters

All the epistles are placed together since they were all authored by Paul. They were mostly letters from Paul to different cities and churches. The books are Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Jude.

Prophetic Books

The prophetic book is one of the New Testament and contains apocalyptic prophecies. The book is the Revelation and is the last book in the New Testament and the bible.
