Applying for Occupational Therapy

Following the bizarre experiences that I went through last year at a medical facility, I can confidently declare my strong desires towards taking part in occupational therapy. I witnessed the processes carried out on a regular basis to control the brain tumor that I was diagnosed with. Having booked several appointments with a therapist, we immediately began the therapy sessions. The sessions involved both physical and speech therapies that continued for four months. The therapist initiated the process through an interview that entailed information based on my health condition followed by a review of historical medical history. Even though my health condition lowered my body function, I managed to reveal some of my attributes that in one way or another may be helpful in enhancing other areas. I am usually observant and keen to details, which made me notice how analytical the therapist was during the entire process. It is here that I accomplished analytical skills that I believe can highly contribute to becoming an effective occupational therapy assistant.

Among other skills that I accomplished include verbal communication. The therapist under my care created a conducive environment for me as a patient, to feel free as I responded to his questions. Additionally, I observed the healthcare administration, documentation, and patient service skills demonstrated by the therapist that motivated me into learning more about this particular field. After the therapy session, I realized that my deteriorated health condition had significantly improved. It is at this point that I uncovered how important the session was to me. The whole experience did improve not only my health condition but also induced my passion towards becoming an assistant, occupational therapist. My main priority has been serving people, especially those who are infected with chronic diseases like brain tumor as I was diagnosed. Such people tend to lose hope in life hence need a skilled occupational therapist. I have a strong feeling that my personal attributes including compassion, concern for others, and keenness to details are an added advantage towards joining this field.

As an assistant, occupational therapist, I can work hand in hand with the occupational therapist to ensure that services are delivered as required. I believe that there are so many people out there who need these services. Currently, I am working at a pharmacy as a technician, and I am greatly moved by what patients go through as they seek medical services. I understand their situations perfectly, considering that I have been in such an impaired condition. I reflect back to my mother's depression that was contributed by my health condition and it breaks my heart to see the patients similarly. Possibly, they have friends and relatives who are equally affected by their conditions. My interests in becoming an assistant, occupational therapist are growing day by day following the compassion I have for the patients. Soon, I wish to be in a position to influence positivity into their lives. The only way to achieve this is by becoming an assistant, occupational therapist, that has been my big dream.
