Social work, to me, is a form of giving back to society. It is a way of offering help to those who need it the most. I did not get into social work to achieve much financial or career development; instead, I got into it to assist people with various needs at the societal and communal level.
What makes you chose this specific field?Besides choosing social work to offers support to the people who need it the most, I see the field as one of the most dynamic areas today. Social work is an ever-developing and growing field with both governmental and non-governmental organizations embracing the needs of social workers in their services. Statistical research has shown that there is an approximately 16 percent growth rate in the field of social work.
How do you plan to build a successful relationship with the client?
Social work is a highly interactive field. It heavily relies on the ability of the social worker to build rapport and create a cohesive relationship with clients. My plan to address that involves incorporating numerous ways in my interactions, including using skills such as client assessment, demonstrating supportive skills, showing empathy, neutrality, and building trust with the clients.
How would you handle the difficult client?
Some of the problematic clients' situations in social work include anger, resistance to therapy, and varying emotions. Dealing and handling these clients entails understanding the clients to establish the best way to work with them. Managing clients with anger problems involve using anger management skills and strategies such as reasoning, taking time out, teaching, and using humor to alleviate anger as well as calming them down. Reasoning with the clients to create a continuous flow of thoughts is essential in handling resistant clients to therapy.
How do you stay on top of all the paperwork in social work?
There is no magic towards being at the top of all paperwork in social work. Consistency, practice, learning and reading, and a desire for continuous improvement are vital for coherent and top paperwork in social work.
What are the most challenging of this job?
As a social worker, two of the most challenging encounters that I have made in this job are working with highly vulnerable people and the ever-changing schedule of the social worker.

So far I can say my greatest achievement being a social worker is acquiring a license of practice.

How do you find resources for clients you have no relationship with?
There has to be a way to connect first. We have to form a relationship, and then the flow of communication and resources comment. Otherwise, sharing is critically essential in social work. If at all, there is no working relationship, we can figure out something else.
How your education/work experience prepared you for this position?
The current position as a social worker is a cumulative action of several educational and work experience. Educational skills such as managing people, problem-solving, working in a challenging environment as well as understanding the unique needs of people were essential in landing to this position. Previous work experience on ways to respond to different challenging situations has given me a leg up in this work position.
What would you like to learn here? (at the company)
I am interested in running social work programs at the managerial post. I am looking forward to establishing my social work facility, and so I believe that experience will be critically essential to help me manage and run that efficiently.
Do you believe in the short term or long-term treatment?
I believe in long-term treatment. There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to social work. Problems will always be there. The only difference will be in the changing nature of the issue. Therefore, long-term treatment is the best way to go.
How did you solve the disagreement with a client about a treatment plan?
Clients are free to choose the treatment plans. However, at situations where they tend to disagree with the treatment plan and their life is at stake, we tend to make contact, engage and discuss the various aspects of the treatment plans and why they are essential. My general experience is that there are usually certain misconceptions leading towards the disagreement, and that needs addressing.
What advice would you give to new social workers?My advice for them would be to choose and prioritize rightful. Social work is more of a service to society than a financial gain entity.
What self-care do you recommend for new social workers?
The general standards of practice, that is, the safety-first approach is the critically necessary form of self-care for a social worker.

How would you respond to a client who refuses to their medication daily?
Establishing a shared understanding and reasoning with the client on the importance of daily medication. If the trend persists to the point that it endangers their lives, then the client will have to take medicines by force.
Describe the time you were able to console an emotional patient.
It is on numerous occasions, I guess. I do not think I can vividly recall that single moment. It is something I do in a routine.
Describe the time you noticed the client's health was deteriorating.
I think most recently, when I was attending to an elderly affected by the novel coronavirus. The experience was horrible.
What are the warning signs for suicide?
I think some of these signs will be frequent discussing of desires to die, trapped in immense emotional pain, isolation, and abandonment by others, hopelessness, anxiety, and increased substance abuse, among others.
What drugs treat mental illness?
I guess by that we will be looking at antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs predominantly. Additionally, stimulants and antipsychotic drugs can also help with the treatment of mental health.
How can marijuana affect a person's mind?
It causes an increased heart rate that leads to hallucinations and mental health issues.
Reflection of the Interview
Social work is an essential aspect of the human lie. Through it, social workers provide essential services such as healthcare to the people who need it the most. Social work creates an opportunity for social justice where the workers view the people they support as equal, depending on their needs. Social work is not a field for every person. It is a field set aside specifically for people with big hearts. People who have the capacity and desire to serve the community in different positions. Therefore, the critical element of social work is the desire to be helping the people in need at all costs.
From the interview, it is evident that there are specific requirements for social work. The desire to serve and help those in need is not sufficient for a person to be an excellent social worker. Just like any other field, education, and work experience are critically vital for a social worker. Therefore, social workers need to acquire academic qualifications, training, and considerable expertise to perform in the field. Some of the areas that a person needs to focus on to be an efficient worker include public relations, interpersonal skills, some primary medical education, and an extensive period of handling people.
Social work involves dealing with people of different races, ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, social status, and age. As such, a social worker needs to have a clear established design for handling these different groups of people. The creation of rapport is vital when a social worker will have to handle various issues that require the consent and agreement of the patients or clients. Therefore, communication skills are critical to establishing understanding and mutual grounds for participation. Some of the conflicting situations that are most likely to occur in their dealings include failure to follow medications or certain physical activities either as a result of cultural practices of religious beliefs. Under such circumstances, a social worker has to be in a position where they can influence the decision of the client through a consensus. Additionally, a social worker is an equal educator. They have to have the capacity to inform their clients on various aspects that they deal with.
One of the areas that social workers are most concerned with, in their routine activities is mental health issues. Most of the clients they work with are either people with specific mental health issues or the aged dealing with problems such as Alzheimer's disease. Understanding the problems associated with mental health is essential to help a social worker to help the people in need effectively. Additionally, working with people with mental health may be quite challenging. Thus, social workers need high-level training and experience on how to handle people under such situations.

Educational training and working experience are essential for any person aspiring to be a social worker.
