The Fonua model is a model that informs the various teaching tactics to people in different age brackets. The model focuses on the entire lifecycle of the human being right from birth to death as well as how they will occasionally interact with nature. This model makes it even easier to develop precise and efficient teaching practices of toddlers, especially between 0-18 months as the teachers can focus on their interrelationships, culture, animals and consequently the living things on their surroundings (Tu'itahi, 2007).The essay below examines the different dimensions of that a teacher should concentrate on the life of a toddler to impact wholesomely on the growth of the child.
For holistic development of a child, Fonua offers the first stage, Sino. Babies usually inundated with various sensory experiences that they wish to explore and they watch their parents and make attempts towards the warm touch their caregivers. Therefore the physical milestones are based on learning to hold objects; move is essential when understood by the caregiver (Godinet & Vakalahi, 2014).
Atamai is another dimension that the caregiver needs to focus on. The young infants use their motor skills and senses to learn from sensory cues. The teacher of the baby needs to focus on object performance as babies to enable them to learn even in the absence of objects (Utumapu, 2016).
Laumalie is the spiritual dimensions that need to be focused on the caregiver. Infants are not ableto discern right from wrong due to their shallow brains. It's, therefore, the responsibility of the teacher to protect them from being blown right to the left by the wind of spiritual teachings (Kinyondo, 2016).
The model also presents Kaiga, which is the collective community dimension. As the teacher understands that the community is the ultimate and apparent social world of the infant, the teacher needs to be supportive and ready to assist the child otherwise the community may impact negatively.
Atakai is the last dimension of Fonua model, and it's the interrelationship of the child to the natural and builds environment. The environment affects a child personality a great way (Utumapu, 2013).The guardian or the teacher of the child must ensure that they provide the serene and favorable environment for an infant.
