Introduction
Severe acute respiratory system (SARS) is a fatal gasping disorder caused by a deadly SARS virus. The respiratory disease is very contagious and spread at an alarming rate. Transmission of the respiratory disease occurs when an individual comes into contact with air that has been contaminated by a person infected by the disease through coughing and sneezing (Hoffmann et al., 2020). Mainly people who have direct contact with SARS patients are at great risk of being infected by the virus. At the early stage of the diseases, the symptoms are flu-like, such as chills, muscle aches, fever, occasional diarrhea, and headache. After one week of infection, the symptoms include High body temperatures, Shortness of breath, and dry cough. The essay Is a PICOT analysis of focus on the impact of SARS on the elderly population.
Population
As people age, it has been proven that the pathogen's cells that fight disease tend to wear out. In elderly people, the numbers of leukocytes tend to decline; hence, they are at a high risk of succumbing to the illness. For Instance, In the case of Covid-19, the major pathogens are influenza virus (IFV), and varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which are responsible for most common infectious diseases worldwide (Liu et al., 2020). The viruses form a coating on the white blood cells hence destroying them. In case the body has few immune cells left, the virus causes more damage to the cells; hence the patient is at higher risk, and this can lead to death. Due to some of these reasons, the SARS virus has been characterized in causing a high mortality rate to the elderly.
Intervention
Identifying individuals who need special therapy to work on upgrading their immune functioning is a great challenge. Since laboratory test should be carried out in a well-equipped laboratory to help identify the possible causes, symptoms and how the virus can be stopped from spreading. Lab tests are expensive; hence Maintaining immune function is associated with added expenses. Therefore, it is not an easy task to carry out the tests. Considerably, elderly people affected by the virus or experiencing the same syndrome have to be tested as fast as possible to help curb the weakening of the slowly produced white blood cells that fight the pathogens in their bodies as well as recommending appropriate measures on how to curb the disease (Wang, & Ou, 2020). Moreover, a professional therapist should be involved to help convince the ailing to follow the measures and drugs provided so as to fight the virus.
Comparison
In most cases, the spread of the SARS virus can be shortened with treatment as well as self-confinement of those found with the virus. This helps reduce the probability of infection in correlation to other measures such as hand-washing regularly, avoiding handshakes and use fist bumps as an alternative. Moreover, as the individual practice Self-isolation helps reduce the rate at which people contact, the government should take emphasis on the country's lockdown measures. These have helped reduce the movement of individuals across the country. For Instance, when the Chinese faced the Covid-19 pandemic, the government made severe measures to control the disease despite the economic impact of the measures.
Outcome
Upon following the given precautions, the spread of the virus is to be reduced. Social distancing will help reduce, proper use of nose masks, and self-quarantine will greatly help curb the spread of the virus at a very high percent. Following the continued treatment of those kept at the isolations, the number of daily reported cases will be lowered. Implementation of a more modernized RNA test in the laboratory will specifically chew up SARS, RNA strand, hence lowering its probability to reproduce (Hoffmann et al., 2020). To functionally disrupt the virus, specification on the use of guided drugs will be provided to completely chew up the SARS-CoV.
Time
From the perspective of SARS information control, this is the easiest time to deal with virus proportions on the infected individuals who are detected with the virus. The incubation stage of the virus is too long to allow more than a small number of people to get acquire the virus. Although the results of SARS were far-reaching, no attempt is made to document in detail the likely magnitude (loss of life and damage to property),frequency (how often they are likely to occur), and duration (how long they last in the body of the victim).
My questions are,
- Which are the most effective measures to be applied to help prevent the spread of SARS without affecting the country's economy?
- What are the new research trends in the medical diagnosis of the SARS virus?
- How fast can a person infected with the SRS virus heal following the underlying etiology of the same?
