Introduction
It goes without saying that gender inequality in sports has been a considerable issue since females were introduced in this arena. In the modern world, women work hard to ensure equality as far as sport is concerned. In fact, many reasons exist to prove that females deserve everything that males do. It is unfortunate that Tennis is the only fundamental sport perceived equal for men as well as women. Additionally, dance is regarded as equally suitable for both genders. It is time that people start acknowledging sport as an activity that plays a vital role in promoting one's health, skills, fun, and involves friendly competition for all. In fact, sporting events should be utilized across the globe to encourage gender equality (Tannsjo, 111). Therefore, no gender should feel that they are not in a position to take part in a certain game because it is not appropriate for them. Specifically, sports are inclusive as well as an excellent way to establish new friendships among the participants and fans for that matter. For instance, football is a universal game that is meant to teach individuals respect as well as tolerance in states where domestic violence, gangs, and guns decline the life expectations of different people.
It is unfortunate that women in sports experience wage differences that favor men. On the same note, some financial deals such as advertising are mostly given to males. With that said, it is evident that the sporting field presents considerable discrimination towards women. For instance, the United States' women soccer team is one of the excellent teams in the world ranked number 1, while men's team is ranked 30. Additionally, the former team brings approximately $15 million for the United States Soccer Federation, as the male team brings only $2 million. However, the men's team enjoy substantial benefits as compared to women's' team (Tannsjo, 112). No matter how the women soccer team works hard to benefit the country's soccer federation, recognition goes to the male team. In particular, this is unfair treatment, and it is time for sports stakeholders to change this view and start recognizing and paying women in sports what they deserve.
Some investigators assert that girls and women are not given equal opportunities in the sport due to various reasons. To begin with, they are perceived as being weak because of their physiological deviations existing between the two sexes. Also, some cultural beliefs, attitudes, as well as social norms discriminate women from sporting events. In fact, young girls and women have substantial talents in various sports, but they lack support to pursue their dreams. Some medical practitioners think that vigorous activities would endanger a female's reproductive abilities and contribute to the establishment of unsightly muscle (Forgues). Therefore, many women are restricted from events including dancing, golf, tennis, swimming, and archery, to mention a few. However, modern studies dispute the preceding believes that women are in danger when participating in various sporting activities. In particular, the contemporary research indicates that no mental, emotional, or even medical facts that affirm the limitation of females from taking part in sports.
It is noteworthy that sports are considered men activities that are utilized to show manliness as well as display how fast or even strong men are to everyone else. However, it is important to understand that time is changing and women are taking over in the sports industry. For instance, soccer and athletics are significant activities are available for women on the same level as that of men. In spite of the fact that many individuals claim that the most entertaining sports events across the globe is men's FIFA, women athletes and netballers deserve similar respect as well as rights that males have although they do not achieve the same viewing population (Forgues). Some scholars such as Sandra Hanson maintain that females and males are almost equal when it comes to sports. The author argues that a considerable number of women take part in school athletics and soccer events. Therefore, it is evident that women are heightening their participation in sporting activities. In particular, this mitigates gender inequality gap experienced in this sector, and this sends a signal to the stakeholders that women are also important aspects of the sports industry.
Conclusion
Overall, sports arena presents a considerable amount of gender inequality. It is unfortunate that even in the modern world women are treated differently. Some problems that contribute to the biases mentioned above include financial, family, social, as well as psychological issues. However, this disease should be treated in an immediate effect. The reason is that young girls and women have substantial talents in various sports activities such as soccer and athletics. Specifically, sports stakeholders should develop adequate strategies to overcome the preceding challenge. For instance, media should support women in sports and provide them with an effective avenue to pursue their talents. It is time that individuals start recognizing females in sports and provide them with considerable support to ensure they succeed in sports.
