Introduction
Individuals trafficked may originate from the similar or different religious, geographical, or social-cultural background. Various factors such as poverty, unemployment, child neglect may result from increasing the rate of trafficking. Traffickers deceive women, men, and children where they force them to involve in exploitative conditions. Thus kids trafficking criminals' uses various tactics to acquire girls for sexual exploitation.
Factors That Cause Children Trafficking
Multiple factors led to the growth of child trafficking. The acts remain lucrative as it engages small risks where it gives more returns to the parties involved, unlike the victims (Cole & Sprang, 2015). Various sociological issues such as poverty make youth accept lucrative opportunities or calls leading to trafficking. These favors include looking for better employment and living opportunities. The impoverished individuals have the motivation to look better, new, and rewarding employment exposing to trafficking incidents. They may acquire offers from the criminals who would deceive them from getting jobs and training opportunities.
Child trafficking is possible due to various factors, such as economic, political, and social factors. These depend on social, cultural, and geographical locations, as well as the mode of trafficking. The major causes of the problem are domestic, regional or country violence, lack of opportunities, and poverty. Other factors like armed conflicts, domestic violence, organized crimes in countries, migration, and displacement make children vulnerable due to homelessness resulting in trafficking. Besides, the increase in demand for young female children for sexual services led to the rise in cases of trafficking to meet the demand. Most child trafficking occurs in the countries where prostitution is legal, although it may happen even in the nations where the practices are prohibited (Miller-Perrin & Wurtele, 2017). These children fall in criminal hands who dupe them for false promises where their vulnerability results in labor and sexual exploitation. For instance, some youth may follow the hope of working abroad to avoid the abusive situation in their background.
Conflicts also drive the child trafficking cases because it causes destabilization of the nation as it destroys both social and economic patterns of individuals (Foot, 2015). Such scenarios force children, and youth to involve in prostitution to cater to their needs. The opportunity gives a quicker way for traffickers to partake their activities due to less resistance from the agencies and government. The increase in the issue of corruption during conflicts makes the criminals get an opportunity to perpetuate their trafficking actions to acquire children for sex slaves and soldiers. Also, the government neglect to take measures against child trafficking has led to increasing the rate of sexual or labor exploitation among the children. Different scholars suggest that few cases of child trafficking are handled by the state authority where the court justice apply while other law enforcement group fails to take corrective measures when the issue arises (Lewis, 2014). For example, prosecution those who involve in the illegal trade of trafficking children as it is against human rights.
Also, the high reward for child trafficking increases the number of criminals who undertake a lucrative business. This illegal trade makes criminals accumulate high profits as it has fewer risks because the networks lead to high investment. According to the International Labor Organization, the criminals who involved in child trafficking generated almost 32 billion dollars from the business in the year 2008 (Moirangthem, Kumar, & Math, 2015). Hence, child trafficking trade is rewarding due to cheap labor and exchange of sex for cash a situation which has increased the vice.
Consequences of Child Trafficking
The victims of trafficking experiences both psychological and physical problems where they suffer health complications. For example, girls and women faces forced abortions, lack of access to birth control, and constant rapes from clients or criminals (Foot, 2015). Many girls in domestic work may suffer as sexual objects as well as other physical abuse. The victims face multiple diseases due to forced prostitution or cases of engaging sexual activities with strangers where they develop post-traumatic stress that might proceed after their recovery from trauma (Miller-Perrin & Wurtele, 2017).
Also, the victims may develop anxiety because of hard physical and emotional environmental they live since they encounter forced sex activities where they suffer psychologically. Forced prostitution may also make them prone to various sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and AIDS (Cole & Sprang, 2015). Also, some victims may lack self-esteem where they view themselves as slaves, making them ashamed of their situation. They suffer emotional depression and disturbances a scenario which makes them attempt many acts to do away with their lives, such as suicidal cases. In some situation, the psychological and physical torture may overcome the victims a condition which leads to their death since the clients may not give them appropriate care, especially when they are sick. Lastly, child trafficking may even affect the community where the criminals would use various techniques to kidnap due to the promised reward. The criminals may also involve in other activities like trading in weapon and money laundering, and drug trafficking, thus affecting the society.
Prevention of Child Trafficking
Child trafficking causes severe impacts, which are devastating and leads to death in most cases. There is a need to curb the increasing threat of children and youth trafficking. Various agencies and states are working towards reducing the incidents, although the issue has not addressed entirely. They have come up with strategies to prosecute and detect the parties that involve in the act of trafficking. Besides, they have developed ways to protect and identify individuals succumbed to the traffic to create a recovery program. The most significant, the agencies and government have made different interventions to help the communities in identifying as well as avoiding trafficking scenarios (Greenbaum, 2018).
However, to eliminate the issues of child trafficking, the organization and people should develop preventive measures to prevent the spread of incidents. The initiatives include creating an awareness campaign or giving information to make people alert of dangers associated with the victim. Also, educating the families on the need of caring for their children to avoid incidences of prostitution which they indulge in catering for their needs. The parents should avoid the issues of violence, child negligence, or abuse, which scares children who eventually move from their homes where they encounter trafficking criminals.
The law needs to provide enough resources to boost criminal justice system to tackle children trafficking easily. The prosecution must ensure all the victims in any country get protection as no person should intimidate the trafficking witness. Thus, the laws need to give harsh penalties to criminals to discourage others from involving in the illegal business. Offering protection to the disadvantaged people is a significant way of preventing the risk of child trafficking. Trafficked individuals also need nation assistance and protection. Government, agencies, and non-governmental organization bodies should have guidelines that would identify the care and support that persons and institutions should give to the trafficked ones. The countries need to collaborate to form the legal recourse for the trafficked children who entered another nation illegally a scenario which would make them have legal protection and representation from exploitation.
Methods of Child Trafficking
The criminals apply various techniques to acquire victims such as manipulation and lies to meet their targets. They may also incorporate personal connections to attract vulnerable children and youth. Personal relationships and networks are a powerful tool of recruitment process since traffickers may recruit friends of girls they have trafficked and even neighborhood. Young children trafficked originate in various places like transit stations, beaches, campus, clubs malls, and restaurants.
The criminals may recruit children as well as a youth through online when advertising legitimate jobs. The lies may include; promises for stable employment and lucrative opportunities (Wolf & Freisthler, 2016). They may use recruitment agencies or media where they form a misleading friendship to teens to traffic them. The dynamic growth of the internet has changed how people do things across the globe today. Child traffickers may use technology to enhance their criminal activities (Cole & Sprang, 2015). Various devices such as handheld, computers, and mobile phones play a significant role in facilitating trafficking. Therefore, child trafficked can use the internet to sell or advertise victims of sexual or labor trafficking. Also, many traffickers involve in physical or romantic relationships to appeal to the victim's economic and emotional needs. They may use switch tactic, sort of bait, and build a contact with the victim and ask them to involve in commercial sex to accomplish their goal or dreams of being together. Some traffickers may use adoption procedures that deceive the caretakers where they traffic children adopted to other nations and regions.
Besides, some child traffickers may use force where they abuse victims emotionally or physically to instill their fear to make them accept their wish. Also, the criminals may gang the victims and sell them into servitude and slavery. The issue of trafficking happens mostly in regions were girls or women are vulnerable due to the financial crisis, unemployment, or poverty.
Sampling Techniques
In conducting the research proposal, qualitative methods would be used because it seeks to understand perceptions and views regarding children trafficking problems that will assist in developing theories or concepts for quantitative data. (Dempsey, 2015). Incorporating qualitative systematic literature review will lead to pools of studies resulting in valid and reliable findings on the influence of child sex and trafficking in California. Thus, accessing the various researches will boost the scholars' views which are necessary for conducting reliable and valid study proposal (Miller, & Northam, 2016).
Following the aim of the study proposal, the information gathered will help in understanding the victim lifestyles, attitudes, and experiences to find measures of assisting them. Since it will be challenging to identify and communicate with trafficking victims, the study will target 10 participants, although the number is small (Greenbaum, 2018). The research proposal will employ snowball sampling techniques since it is a qualitative research where the participated rescued from the threat of trafficking and staying in victims safe havens will pick to participate in the study. Data collection will contain interviews where the participants will be required to give views about the experiences they encountered (Miller, & Northam, 2016). The study target children below 18 years who rescued from the trafficking. The questions will be designed to provide a better understanding of how the victims view the act of traffic, and their experience such as emotional, physical, and social issues. There will be notes taking during interviews and the recording of the conversation where the documentation will be secured with the password in computer to protect confidentiality and privacy.
