I was still at the age of ten when I was living in Beverly Hills together with my parents. There was a time when I had the saddest day of my life in that I lost my grandfather whom I loved so much. My grandfather was not only an essential person in my life, but he also played the role of being my best friend. He was always there when I needed him to give me pieces advice on how to carry out or solve a problem that I had encountered at a given time in my life. We used to share both the good and bad times, and that was the reason why I always felt some happiness every time I thought about him. He used to say, "Mind your steps and moves as they will determine your future" as a way of making me stay away from negative deeds.
It was on a Sunday evening when we got the news that my grandfather fell on his way to the hospital to seek medication with respect to his cancer condition. He wanted the clinicians to make him know the rate at which the cancer cells were growing in his groin. On that day, I was in school sitting for my exams, and I was sure that the illness was not that serious as many purported. On that morning my grandfather was so jovial that he even promised to make breakfast for all of us as he was telling the tales of some of the things that he had gone through during his youthful ages.
He was a man of his words, and did not like people to had a feeling that he was in too much pain. In that case, everyone one of us in the house was not worrying about it anymore. In the back of his mind, he knew that the situation was getting worse and he would lose his life if he continued keeping it. "I am fine and I believe that I will get healed sooner than you know it," he said. There are instances when my grandfather would go to the backyard and call his doctor over the issue, but he did not want anyone in the family to notice him doing that. My grandfather loved us all, and he did not want anyone to start being stressed or sympathetic to his health condition.
He liked making jokes about cancer, and that was the reason why I kept loving him. My grandfather accepted everything and he was ready to face life regardless of the troubles that came in that line. He thought of visiting the hospital after the situation had worsened and he could not be saved in any way. I did not believe the news of his death, but it hit me hard when one day I went to his house, and he was not there to welcome me with songs like he used to do.
His death made me learn a lesson that it is not always good to keep anything a secret especially when it is a matter of health. If he could have let everyone know that his condition was worsening, the right action could have been taken before having him lose his life. I also learned that it is good to accept all situations in life because it is the best way to enjoy everything even if they are painful. This was the exact character that was depicted by my grandfather before he died.
