I will account for climatic changes like rainfall and high temperatures when working in DRC. The country experiences heavy monsoon rains that runs from September to May, which are also accompanied by average temperatures ranging from 22-33oC. Very heavy showers may affect the transportation of researchers and their equipment to the Ebola hot zones or local villages.

I will account for an additional cost to hire local nurses as support staff for the research. Thinking About the Complex Questions

When working in DRC researching on Ebola treatment, management, and prevention, the countries GMT will be a critical problem to address when having live conferences with the CDC officials in the United States. Sometimes it will be a challenge to schedule meetings at night while in DRC so as to coincide with the United States' preferred time for the meetings.

Gross National Product (GNP) is also employed by the World Bank to assess the social and economic activities of a nation. GNP assesses the total income of a nation's residents within a particular time compared to how the residents use their income. World Development Indicators (WDI) is a metric that is intended to measure the economic viability of a country. The World Bank collects data to be used by this metric from internationally recognized sources. In this context, it can provide viable information about the economic viability of DRC's economy to the CDC when preparing to go to the country for research.

Companies to Consider

Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) is an MNE from the Seattle United States that performs research on highly infectious diseases that affect children.

Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR) is an MNE also based in Seattle, United States and it is focused on developing a cure for the highly contagious diseases.

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH) is an international research company that is based in Rockville, United States and it performs research on allergic and infectious diseases like Ebola in the United States.

Southern Star Research is an international research company that is based in Gordon, Australia and it performs research on a range of biomedical issues.

CDC is an international biomedical research institution based in Atlanta, Georgia, United States and it performs research to support health promotion through contagious disease outbreak prevention.

Development of a Complex Question

How has the emergence of Ebola in the DRC impacted the country and international community in its entirety? What has DRC - through its health departments - done to prevent future widespread transmission of Ebola as a highly contagious disease locally and internationally? Did the reporting of Ebola affect foreign direct investment (FDI) in DRC? That is by the business ventures in international nations who had the interest to invest in DRC.

The emergence of Ebola in DRC has affected international trade in the country. That is particularly in key sectors of the economy like tourism. Since August 1, 2018, citing of Ebola in Kivu, the population of international tourists visiting the country has declined significantly. Subsequently, this has also reduced the level of government economic gains in the affected regions. Furthermore, some of the international countries that were operating in the Ebola prone regions of DRC shut down their operations after reports of the disease in their region of operations were made. Moreover, the level of foreign direct investment (FDI) made by international countries in DRC also declined due to fear of the disease outbreak.

The DRC, through its healthcare departments and institutions operating in the nation have established an Ebola testing protocol for all travelers leaving and entering the countries' key entry points - airports, ports, and national borders. The move has been aimed at ensuring that no strain of Ebola can enter of leave DRC. In addition, the DRC government has been aggressive in encouraging the global health community performing research on Ebola to travel to the country for better data collection and analysis. Additionally, that has been in order to encourage researchers to develop better and more effective methods of curbing and preventing further transmission of the disease.

The emergence of Ebola in DRC affected the level of FDI in the nation. That is because a large number of potential international investors shied away from investing in DRC due to the fear of a further outbreak of the highly contagious disease. In addition, if such international investors were to start their businesses in DRC, they would have incurred great losses due to the occasional shutdown of their business operations when Ebola cases were reported, forcing workers to leave for screening. Moreover, border restrictions due to Ebola control measures in DRC could affect the trading operations of international traders in the country.
