Health systems, insurers, and hospitals have been integrating with practices of a physician seeking success under the reform of healthcare. A proper selection of integration models is necessary. This paper will provide a case study on the models of integration used by physicians and even hospitals.
Entire practice acquisition is one of the models that can be integrated into healthcare. Under this model, healthcare purchases all of the practice assets of a physician. It directly employs all staff and physicians and obtains all equipment (Dwyer, Lavoie, O'Donnell, Marlina, & Sullivan, 2011). For systems of hospitals, acquiring physician practices captures the main care access point.
The quality or performance-driven contracting model is another model that is used by physicians, even hospitals. Here the health care partners with workers through a hospital organization of the physician to jointly contract with employers in the provision of healthcare services to patients with incentives (Armitage, Suter, Oelke, & Adair, 2009), which are performance-based linked to cost management, access, and quality.
Purchasing of ancillaries is another model that can be integrated by physicians in healthcare-ancillary services re supportive measures which physicians may use to aid in the treatment of patients. A pharmacy is an example of ancillary service, also whenever a physician conducts a test in his or her office (Hassan, 1986). One of the first things which systems of hospitals do after the acquisition of a physician practice is stripping out ancillary services such as infusion therapy and incorporating the physician into the ambulatory operations of the hospital (Evans, Baker, Berta, & Barnsley, 2013 . This is the best model to integrate into a hospital or be used by physicians.
Conclusion
In conclusion, hospitals and even the healthcare system are faced with challenges in financing as well as care delivery. Specific models may be integrated into their operations, such as purchasing of ancillaries, quality, or performance-driven contracting model as well as the entire practice acquisition model. Purchasing the ancillary model will work better in healthcare since it allows the incorporation of newly acquired physicians into healthcare, thus improving service delivery.
