Such horrific events are known as black swans. Some of them may include the Spanish flu, which occurred between 1918 and 1920, the first world war and the Great Depression.

The coronavirus crisis has characteristics similar to black swan events. It came as a shock late last year, and its impact within just half a year has been catastrophic. Since its identification, it was one that could not be easily predicted to spread so fast. They are also characterized by prolonging economic destruction.

Most virologists have tried to predict or warn some notable and possible future pandemics, such as the exercises following the Ebola outbreak. It has also been estimated that they tend to occur every half a century, but they are also prospected to recur more often. Public health systems were developed in most European countries. There was also the creation of WHO to combat worldwide epidemics. Ultimately, even after such pandemics, the human race has managed to get back to its feet.

In conclusion, the history of pandemics has resulted in a change in ethical decisions. COVID-19, therefore, marks a crucial juncture that will, shortly, lead to divisive changes. Like other pandemics in the past, this crisis will open doors to a new, better sustainable way of improving human life. It serves as an opportunity to better our healthcare systems, technological advancements, and strengthen global cooperation in initiating new mechanisms. Humans have revealed that it is possible they are proficient in learning and adapting to the black swans and ushering in a better new world.
