Introduction
I am applying for the Daughters of American Revolution Scholarship Program. Currently, I am in my first year of Nursing at Tarleton State University. I believe in my chosen career path as a profession that will enable me to achieve my lifelong desires of helping others. The nursing program at Tarleton State University will also expand my knowledge base and nurture my skills as a professional nurse dedicated to enhancing the welfare of patients. There are so many people in the world that lack access to primary health care facilities. Volunteering in nursing missions would be a core aspect of my chosen profession. I am determined to be highly skilled and be the best nurse to patients. Therefore, I believe that a nurse should be 100% committed to offering patient-centered care from a holistic approach. I would like to make a difference in a patient's life when they are most vulnerable by showing them compassion and empathy along with medical help. I look forward to making my dream become a reality by nurturing my nursing skills, knowledge and to stay on top of every available medical option.
Passion for Nursing and Career Goals
My desire to pursue a nursing program is a calling and not just a career choice from my point of view. I feel that I am truly dedicated to the task ahead of me. As such, my career objective is either to pursue a pediatric nurse practitioner or an obstetric gynecologist (OBGYN). Children have always fascinated me. I truly love them with all my might. At home, I like to take care of my siblings and relieve my mother some of the burdens. Children light up the mood in our household because they bring joy to our lives. Apart from that, I like interacting with children outside of our home, and I have developed a deep affection towards them. As such, I hope to have my own flesh and blood when the time comes. Unfortunately, children are vulnerable to opportunistic childhood diseases that may slow down their development milestones. My desire to be a pediatrician is to help medically-ill children to recover so that they can be in the comfort of their families. For those without parents or in foster care, I would like to help them in their recovery journey and show them that there is more that meets the eye. They can achieve any dream they focus on as long as they put effort.
Desire to Make a Difference
On the other hand, the desire to be an obstetric gynecologist is because the women's reproductive system is very complicated and vulnerable. From menstruation, childbirth, to UTIs, women need a lot of care. While watching international news, I see young girls suffering and abandoning their education when they are menstruating due to lack of sanitary towels or female genital mutilation (FGM). I would like to participate in a nursing mission that creates awareness on the dangers of FGM and the need to provide sanitary towels to girls so that they can complete their education without hitches. Apart from that, women need a lot of care during pregnancy, labor, and childbirth. I would like to provide postpartum care and ensure that their experiences during these phases of life are worth it. With this note, education is an essential aspect of my life.
Academic Excellence and Time Management
I have always been interested in achieving academic excellence. During high school, I dedicated my time to studies and extracurricular activities. I took challenging courses such as chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and calculus. Through perseverance, hard work and determination, I managed to attain college eligibility. In sports, I participated in playing badminton and table tennis. It was a way for me to maintain fitness and refresh my mind after long hours of study. I was very good at managing time and even found hours to spend with my family and friends. Time management is essential for a successful nurse. A nurse should have the ability to allocate time to different patients under care and ensure quality services.
During my college education at Tarleton State University, I hope to achieve nothing but academic excellence in the preparation of future studies. I hope that my interaction with faculty members and the course modules will unleash my potential and career specialization. It is in my endeavor to explore all aspects of the nursing program and to develop the skills needed for research. In the current age, evidence-based practice has become an important component of the health care industry. I believe that Tarleton University will prepare me in this crucial area of nursing because research helps to promote better service delivery and patient experience.
The Daughters of American Revolution scholarship will help me meet my financial obligation in managing the tuition fee. It will help me complete my nursing program with a first class honors as I will have more time to focus on studies and clinical experience fundamental for a nurse specialist. My desire to learn gives me the spirit to push on and put effort and dedication to whatever I do. I have learned the importance of responsibility because patients will trust me with their health and wellbeing. Therefore, my goal is to be a nurse practitioner with the highest level of education to not only provide care to patients but improve the nursing profession as well through research. It is my sincere hope that my scholarship application will be considered. Thank you in advance.
