Introduction
In the modern world, several technological advancements have occurred. Regular innovations and inventions facilitate the improvements by scientists and researchers, who are always interested in exploring more and making new and more significant discoveries. The nursing sector is not an exception; as a result, many changes and different care plans have emerged in the past due to continuous research by medical experts and health professionals. The changes in the modes of management and introduction of many other technologies which aim at improving the patient outcome and survival rates, have concurrently lead to difficulties and several challenges in the health facility homes. Various effects and problems characterize the distinct challenges, but the most common massacre is their ability to lower the quality of health tremendously, offered to the patients. The primary objective of this discussion is to effectively illustrate and discover the various models, theories, methods that can be employed to help in addressing the challenges so that the quality of health care is not tampered with. The advantages that a health facility could realize after the full eradication of the problems are also discussed in the latter part of this study.
Ways of Managing Conflicts in a Health Care Environment
Scholars have identified in the past that an eruption of problems or rather challenges in any workplace is a common theme; hence it is no longer considered a significant issue that could lower the quality of health. However, what matters most is the ability of the health care management to solve the challenge as soon as it occurs before the effects are propagated into other subsequent stages. One English man and a philosopher once said, "a problem shared is a problem half solved" (Clark et al., 2018). Yes, this is one of the many strategies or ways that can be used to solve health problems whenever they take place. Dealing with a situation, instead of to dogging it, helps the nurses or therapists to understand one another at a more expendable level. For instance, if a conflict arises, it is always advisable to speak up and resolve the dispute, because, when the nurse decides to confine the problem, at an individual level, then there are possibilities of contracting or suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or dangerous chronic diseases, all-cause by stress and depression (Wallensteen, 2018). Nonetheless, to undertake this method of conflict resolution, tactics are extracted from the two broad theories; traditional and modern approaches.
These theories have the capability of dealing with conflict in health care homes. The traditional method works on the principle that everyone involved in the conflict is considered a trouble maker. In contrast, in the modern theory of conflict resolution, a battle is usually viewed as a naturally occurring disaster that is inevitable or out of control by humanity (Yousaf & Poncian, 2018). Meanwhile, the one exciting thing with the conflict resolution process associated with either of the two theories states that the outcome is always positive, innovative, and sometimes creative for newer ideologies. This idea can not only be used to manage the present conflict, but it may be used to strengthen the weak points involved in the nursing care home, such that any possible occurrence of conflict originating from a similar cause is evaded.
As new technologies such as; the use of artificial intelligence specifically for the human cognitive processes; application of robotics to reduce the use of social power in hospitals; use of 3D Bioprinting machines; introduction of Nanomedicine among others, continue to emerge, nursing homes have become the hardest institutions to manage. Scholars acknowledge the importance of the newly introduced technologies and the innovative techniques which are aimed at improving patient outcomes. Perhaps, their critical role is highly evidenced in the fact that death rates have reduced considerably, as the use of the workforce, leading to constant errors periodically, was eradicated. However, the challenge of crisis management is inevitable; therefore, nurse professionals have the most significant duty to simultaneously deal manage the occurring crisis so that the functioning of the health treatment plans and processes continues as planned without any interferences. Crisis in a health care environment is frequently represented in the form of an arc consisting of three fundamental pillars. They include crisis avoidance, mitigation, and recovery.
The three phases were first introduced by Gonzalez-Herero and Pratt, who performed qualitative and quantitative research in the United States of America (Jiang et al., 2018). An effective crisis management models also evaluated using its ability to choose a significant turnaround strategy that best solved the crisis and promises for denial or any future occurrences. A better crisis management process is crucial for health workers to own the attributes of ethical standards. Additionally, the best method of addressing the crisis is by following the appropriate standard stages or procedures. Another model considers the phases as pre-crisis, crisis response, and lastly, post-crisis. All the preventive measures are usually prepared during the pre-crisis stage. However, if a crisis continues to occur past this stage as it was defined by the modern conflict theory to be an inevitable element, then, management methods are typically brought forth in the second phase. The last step defines the activities that nursing organizations should engage in to ensure that the crisis is adequately dealt with both at the present and future stages.
Another challenge in a nursing care environment is the difficulty in making supervision for the health workers. Monitoring is a helpful tool that nurses can use to improve the quality of care being offered. One of the most significant advantages of making regular supervision is that problems can be identified at their primary stages. They can thus be managed in a more relaxed manner, using fewer resources. , as opposed to when the problem is detected in its last stages after destruction and interruption with the daily routine the other day to day health operations. Nevertheless, not all of the health workers are qualified to do the supervisory role, but only a few who have undergone all the training procedure and attained all the necessary academic and nursing qualifications of interest. Therefore, nursing care has to invest so heavily to obtain a highly competent human resource manager to initiate the training purposes for the interested supervisors to be.
It is usually a custom that supervisors are fished from other high institutions, and paid upon completion of the task. To get the best results of the patient outcome, regular supervision is needed to that errors are identified as soon as they occur. Relating the two scenarios; finally, supervision stipulates that the entire process is costly all round; thus, the management is forced to raise the patient fee. The issue has led to several occurrences of loss of lives primarily due to the obvious but fatal preventable or manageable illnesses, simply because the cost may be higher than what one can afford to pay.
Besides, the federal government states a rule which defines the location of health care, commodities, and equipment's that a health care must have and also other qualifications such as the number of nurses expected in every nursing home based on their sizes and availability of resources. This constitutes two broad categories, namely, a healthy and an unhealthy working environment. To abide by the federal and state law standards and requirements, nurses must always ensure that they keep specific considerations par, almost at all times, and because any slight mistake and ignorance could lead to death or severe injuries to the patients. The challenges are usually felt by the patients in most cases, but only at a slight percentage by the nurses.
Meanwhile, as this grows to become one of the most difficult challenges to manage, most patients still do not understand clearly, how to categorize a healthy working environment and unhealthy working environment. By having the necessary knowledge, a patient can be able to choose whether or not to attend a specific hospital for treatment. A healthy nursing care environment should provide a calm and pleasant positive working environment that is easily accessible by most nurses, must have the health and safety equipment's to respond to any urgency immediately it takes place without referring a patient to another health care home to seek treatment, as this will lower the quality of health, and subject the patients to more significant risks.
Another challenge that most health care homes face is the problem of delegating duties. The manager in a health care home usually has the responsibility of delegating tasks, bases on the individual qualifications and differences in their levels of competencies. So definitely, a hardworking nurse is likely to be granted with a load of duties to perform, in as much as the quality standards are not interfered with whatsoever.
All the same, it could be said that this specific challenge is only prevalent in the growing hospitals, where nurses are not adequate, and new health technologies are not updated to cover up some of the activities. Meanwhile, even in their presence, the manager in both cases will always face the challenge of identifying that someone is fit to do which task, another is available at what time and many other "Why" questions when duties are wrongly delegated to the nurses, a possible problem that may result in a delay in service delivery.
In contrast, an active duty delegation process would result in a positive patient outcome (Clark et al., 2018). Lastly is the challenge of networking. Networking promotes unity and hence a smoother service delivery. The primary factor which constitutes networking is communications between the nurses in health care. United workers with a linear management system where patient information is conveyed in a channel form, are likely to experience a positive deviation in the quality of health offered to the patients, because, urgencies can be addressed fast enough. However, health facilities lacking a well-defined information system, regularly offer lower quality health because the patient care plans are made maybe by the registered nurse RN only without any clarification from the therapist or the attending nurses.
Conclusion
In summary, the possible methods and strategies of managing challenges that arise in health care management include, using the case management model consisting of the three major phases. The second solution is dealing with the situation, employing a highly trained human recourse manager to perform training and supervision of the development and implementation of the patient care plans. Also, health care should be situated in a favorable environment, as depicted in the study and equipped with all the treatment tools for the various types of illnesses that health care is dealing with.
Concerning delegation and networking, it was revealed by the study that, a health care led by the team of experts should consider the qualifications and competency levels to delegate duties, and also have a well-defined chain of disseminating information. This is to enhance more accessible communication between the attendant and all other workers within the environment. Throughout the discussion, it was also revealed that successful management of the challenges has the advantage of improving the quality of health standards offered to the patients.
