Introduction
My name is Awa Touray, 25 years old, married for two years. I feel like I am an adult. I will be describing some of the memorable life events and what I hope to achieve in the future.
High Point
The highest point of my life was passing my high school exams with an A constant. I got admission to one of the best universities in my country. Coming from a financially challenged family, the only thing that could save us from the situation was education. Everyone in the family was so happy and saw hope for a good future through me. I had worked so hard in school, and this was payment for my efforts. The exams made me feel confident in myself and taught my younger twin sisters that everything is possible. You need to put in the work. This incident shows that I am a hardworking person, and I do not let my situations affect my dreams. It also indicates that I am an optimist. Despite having grown up in a low-income family, I had hope that one day I would change the situation of my family.
Low Point
My dad invested and lost the little money we had. Things went south from that day. He became bitter and stressed. During this period, they had a lot of disagreements with my mum, and my mum ended up leaving. My dad wanted to sell land and needed tittle deeds to transfer the ownership to the new buyers. I think that he had misplaced the title deeds, but what I know is he couldn't find them. He felt that we hid the documents because our mother did not want him to sell the land. He thus took my twin sisters and I to the police station where we stayed for two days; then, he decided to come and take us out, thinking we were ready to give him the documents. That made me depressed. I lost my job, and it was hard to find another job with a record. It took me forever to get on my feet again. I was so disappointed in my dad for not trusting us even though we stuck by him the whole time when mum left. But then I had to forgive him. This scene shows how forgiving and understanding I am. Other people would have chosen to cut off their family and move on with their lives. On top of being accused of something I didn't do, i got jailed, and now I have a criminal record that will forever be part of me no matter what I do.
Turning Point
After I lost my job, I felt like I had lost everything. I was from a broken, low-income family, I had a record, and I could not get another job, and my parents had lost trust in me. I was depressed and hopeless. I cried for a few days. Then one day, I was on YouTube and came across a motivational speaker who said if you sat down and worried about your life, it was going to stay the same, and you will remain to complain about the rest of your life. Again he said that you should learn to turn your talent into a source of income. I had bought an oven and a gas cooker. I enjoyed cooking a lot. But, then I did not have the money to rent a restaurant space. So I started cooking and posting my delicious foods on Instagram and asking people to buy. In the first few days, I got only three customers. But after like two weeks I had a lot of food orders. In a month, I was able to open a restaurant. I renovated our house and had enough money to save my family from poverty. My parents are still separated. We are now happy and no more conflicts. I can say that my turning point was when I listened to that motivational speaker and decided to take charge of my life. What this scene says about me is that I can take bad situations and change them into success.
Positive Childhood Memory
The happiest childhood memory is our happy family. We would all sit down during dinner, laugh, and watch animations together. Almost every day, when my dad came home, he went with a gift for my mother and brought us toys. Gong home to my mum and dad was the best feeling ever. Family is my happiest childhood memory. This memory shows how much I love family and how much I will be willing to make my family work so that my children have these happy memories I have.
Negative Childhood Memory
My dad suffers from arthritis. When it gets cold, his joint becomes very painful. So this day I came from school and found my dad sleeping on the couch. He could not walk. My mum took an off from work to take care of him. He was so sick I thought he was going to die. I could not imagine life without my father. I went to my bedroom, cried, and prayed that God would heal him. I was ten years old. I was much stressed. This memory shows that I fear LONELINESS. I need support from people to be able to achieve things in life.
Vivid Adult Memory
I will never forget the day that my mum left. I had just joined the first year of campus 18 years of age and home for our long holidays. Things were tough at home. I remember one day I was left at home alone, and the bank came brought a letter of eviction. On my birthday there was no food at home. My dad traveled and came back home. We ate dinner and went to sleep. In the middle of the night, I heard a struggle. My parents were fighting. My dad accused my mum of cheating on him. I don't think that my mum was that kind of woman. That was the first time that my dad hit my mum. My mum rushed to our room, locked it from inside, and stayed there. My dad left and locked the house. In the morning my mum looked for the house keys, told me she was not coming back again and went to her brother's house with only one pair of clothes. I know people will say that I am mature enough to be affected by this. But it has affected me greatly, and I am still trying to move on from it.
Future Script
1. The Next Chapter
I believe that I am going to be a very successful individual. I will have a stable family. I will continue to provide for my family, maybe bring my parents together or support them wherever they are. I do not plan on being sad or feeling sorry for myself anymore.
2. Dreams Hope To Prepare For The Future
I want my restaurant to be one of the most prominent restaurants in town. I want to make my marriage a happy one. I hoped to reconcile with my dad and built a better relationship and, most important of all, be satisfied.
3. Life Project
I have always wanted to travel and see the world, but money has been a limitation. With the growth of my restaurant, I plan on seeing the world and documenting it on my YouTube channel. My parents always enjoyed family vacations, but since they split, neither of them has gone to one. I want to make it a life project to make sure I take them for a vacation once every year. With the money that I will get from my travel videos, I will invest back into traveling. Every new pace I go to I will document their food recipes and teach people about the different cultures
Challenges
1. Life Challenge
The most significant problem I have encountered is the lack of money. My parents were middle-class people until my dad made a wrong investment and lost all the money. My mum had advised him against it, but he did not listen. I was not able to address this challenge. During my life on campus, I took up part-time time jobs that paid form my luxury, for instance, clothes so that my parents did not have to struggle too hard to provide a comfortable life. This challenge is the reason why I work so hard in life. I made sure that I got good grades in school. If I grew up in a wealthy family, then I would not have any motivation to work hard.
2. Health
Like earlier mentioned, my dad suffers from arthritis. He spends a lot of money managing the diseases that he cannot take care of us at certain times. There was a time he was so sick at home that he was not able to work. When the time came to pay for our rent, he was not a position. Our house was closed, and I had to live with some friends for some weeks before I could go back to my place. No one knows how he got the disease. Because of this problem, I did a health-related course so that I could participate in the management of his health.
Failure and Regret
I regret not standing up to my dad and fighting for my business. I got an opportunity to supply handmade bags to a company. During my exams, I had to tell one of my parents to help me out. I wanted my mum to do it because she's good at businesses. My dad said to me that if I gave the company to my mum, then I should leave his house. My dad neglected the market, and it failed like I knew it would. I still wish I dared to stand up to him, but now I know better than to involve them in my work.
Single Value
The most important benefit I human living is happiness. You can have all the materials things and lack joy and end up killing yourself.
Other
You should value what you have and be contended. Do not compete with people because everyone has different goals in life. Always strive to better than you were yesterday.
Life Theme
Always strive to be a better version of yourself each day. That means that you keep on improving and heading toward your goals. Happiness and change start with you, so be the change you want, and things around you will change to accommodate you.
Reflection
Life has not been good for me. This project has helped me appreciate the good things in my life, and it has also shown me the negatives can be turned to positives. Writing this project has felt like I am talking to someone, and a problem shared is a problem half solved.
