Introduction
Adult English learners often tend to have difficulty in learning to read using ordinary text. The level of comprehension is normally low as compared to when the audiobooks are used in the learning process. The audiobooks enable adult English learners to engage in texts and gain exposure to numerous number of words, a situation that ultimately improves comprehension, vocabulary, as well as critical thinking skills. When the adult learners are allowed to engage with audiobooks in the classroom setup, their world of learning can finally open up. Having audiobooks that enable the students read louder can assist the struggling readers move beyond the decoding processes and right into the learning process (Kartal & Simsek, 2017). Through the application of audiobook, the more words the learners learn, the better they become in terms of accessing grade-level material. The application of audiobooks in adult learning not only enhance the comprehension of the text but also the general plot writing script.
The rationale of the Study
The application of books in adult learning has been ongoing for decades. However, with the introduction of the audiobooks, there are changes in the adult learning system especially when it comes to the reading and comprehension. Before the introduction of the audiobooks, the performance of the adult learners was very low, especially when it comes to the reading and comprehension, however, with the emergence of audiobooks, there is a significant change in the adult learning processes. The rationale of the research is, therefore, to show the impacts of audiobooks when it adult learning, specifically in reading and comprehension.
Study Gap
Currently, there is limited research on the application of audiobooks, especially their use in the adult learning processes. There are different application of audiobook; they can be used in the learning process for those who are visually impaired. Also, they are applicable in situations where learner finds it difficult to use the plain texts, specifically in the classroom setup. The other area that seems to benefit more from the use of audiobooks in the adult learning system. There is lack of comprehensive study that has been conducted to show the impacts of the introduction of audiobooks in adult learning, specifically in the reading and comprehension. Many study literature does not indicate the impacts of audiobook learning when it comes to the improvement of reading and comprehension. The above study gap is important because it will add into what is already in existence in improving the adult learning. In other words, educators can use the findings in the above study to improve reading and comprehension among adult learners.
Adult learning is on the rise, and many education systems are usually in search of different elaborate methods that can be applied in improving the reading and comprehension as well as general language skills. The study is therefore important in revealing some of the best aspects of adult learning that can be incorporated in the learning process. The creation of comprehensive research on the impacts of audiobooks in adult reading and comprehension will enable the improvement in the learning process. The research will add value to the already existing kinds of literature that consist of findings on various forms of adult education.
