Joel is echoing a warning on the forthcoming judgment when God will punish the evildoers and reward the faithful. Therefore, the day of the Lord will be good news to the faithful or believers since they will be rewarded while the wicked will be punished. Joel is requesting the people to ask for God’s forgiveness by repenting their sins and returning to God. For that reason, the day of the Lord will be for punishing the sinners, but, God is also merciful and he will pardon those who are remorseful for their sins. This is to say that evil people will have a bad day when the Lord comes while the faithful will rejoice since their sins are forgiven.

Understanding the “Day of the Lord” From 1 Thessalonians 5

It is clear about the second coming of Jesus on Earth, but this time He will not be coming as a baby but as a King and a Savior of the world. As described by Prophet Joel, the “Day of the Lord” will be a day of judgment. The passage of 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul helps believers to have a better understanding of the second coming of Jesus so that we can be prepared for His arrival. Paul reminds the faithful that no one knows the day the Lord will return, not even Jesus (Nelwan, 2012). However, he further adds that those that believe in God will not be caught unaware since they will be ready. He urges the believers not to fear but instead to stay alert by continuing to have faith in God and love one another as well as being confident in our salvation.

As a believer, the second coming of Jesus is rooted in my heart and mind as I continue with my journey of faith. Through the scriptures, I am encouraged to continue running my race regardless of the many challenges of life. Therefore, the day of the Lord will be a day of rejoicing for the believers and it is something that Christians are supposed to be looking forward to with joy. God will manifest His power to the world by rewarding the faithful and punishing those who rebel against Him.
