Expository articles are those, which seek to provide the reader with extensive knowledge on a specific subject matter. Just like the word expose suggests, the core aim of expository articles is give an explanation, make a description, or provide information to the audience. As such, the writer of such articles assumes that the audience have not information about a particular issue that he/she is addressing in the article. This paper will retrieve three expository articles on three different themes namely; economics, sports, and lifestyle and nutrition. From the three articles, the topic sentences for the three articles will be evaluated, their introductory strategies described, and the conclusion type evaluated on whether it is inform of a quote, opinion or recommendation.

Topic Sentence

The author of this article does not necessarily provide the topic sentences for each paragraph as the paragraphs are split into very short sentences. However, he provides the thesis statement as to prove markets are efficient and the use of the Ricardian equivalence theorem to show that fiscal stimulus policies are useless at least in the long runrequires the presumption that the economic system is ergodic. Apart from this clear statement of the thesis, the topic sentences that ought to be highlighted in each paragraph are not either put in bold or in any other color so as to signal the reader.

Introduction Strategies

The introductory part of this article starts with the general information to the more specific ones. Specifically, the author starts by describing how the mainstream scientists describe the characteristics of a science. Afterwards, he goes ahead to infer from the information that economics should also have those descriptions if it were to be referred to as a science. The author then advances in his introduction to stating the purpose of the article as well as how he intends to stimulate the discussion that had been started by the economists. The author proceeds to identify the specific theories that underlie his arguments, which makes the reader to move from the more general discussion of the subject matter to the more specific details of the author.

Conclusion

The end of the expository article uses a recommendation style. In this regard, the author sums ups the whole article by stating that the Keyness liquidity theory of the operation of financial markets is deductive in nature. Afterwards, he recommends that the theory should replace the mainstream models proposed by other economics such as the artificial world model of Lucas. This is due to the practicality and reality of Keyness liquidity theory.

Topic Sentences

This expository article enlightens the audience on the consequences and effects of the involvement of the youth in sports at an early age. In the thesis statement, it is stated that there is limited data on the roots, and the effects that the sport specialization of the young during their early ages have on their future lives. From the observation of the paragraphs, each one of them starts with a topic sentence. In this regard, it is easier to understand what each paragraph will talk about judging from the first line of each paragraph, which contains the topic sentence. In this regard, the article has been organized in a manner that each paragraph starts with a topic sentence that gives the reader what is expected in the rest of the paragraph.

Introduction Strategies

Just like the previous article on economics, this article starts the introduction with a general view of the subject matter. Specifically, the author starts with stating the importance of sports for the youth. He then proceed to state that there exists few statistics on how sport specialization has helped the youth. As such, from the onset, the reader has a general knowledge as to what is known and what is not known about sport specialization. Without reading the rest of the paper, the audience is able to have a clear overview of what will be discussed by the author. The specificity of this expository discussion at the end of the introduction shows how the author uses the general to specific introduction strategy.

Conclusion

The author uses an opinion style in the conclusion part of the expository article. In this regard, opines that it is fundamental that sports are kept into perspective. Additionally, it is his view that the purpose of sports for the young are natural growth and maturity. As such, the author opines that it is important for those involved in sports to tell the young about the value of sports in their future lives. This opinion style conclusion is confirmed by the various statistics that the author has provided the readers with in the body of the article.

Topic Sentence

This article deals with the various dietary changes that are supposed to be made by kidney patients so that they can maintain their disease with much ease. The topic sentences are observed at the beginning of each paragraph. From the reading of each first sentence of every paragraph, it is clear to establish the main idea of each paragraph in the article. Each of the paragraph can stand on its own without the need to read the others. As such, the topic sentences are clear and concise to enable the reader to grasp each main idea.

Introduction Strategies

The author begins the article by stating the background information to the article. This information provides a general view of the subject matter. However, with a closer reading of the introductory part, the reader will gain an insight into the specific objective of the paper. Additionally, a closer reading of the introduction will provide a general to specific style of expository writing. This strategy gives the reader an overview of the whole context of the subject matter while narrowing down on the topic provides a specific issue that is explained in the whole article.

Conclusion

The article ends with the recommendation for future research on the subject matter. This gives the reader a suggestion that the author has not explained everything about the subject matter. In this case, the reader will know what the author has not discussed what he/she need to know further. Indeed, this article provided very good suggestions that the reader can do to ensure that more information is obtained on the subject matter of the expository article.
