Presentation One
The presentation that is titled Reducing Chronic Lung Disease in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit explains the possibility of reducing the incidences of the chronic lung disease, enhance patient's outcomes, and cost reduction by altering the method of CPAP to Bubble from nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV). The presentation is well-structured and divided into six parts that are easy to follow through.
When addressing the evidence-based practice, my colleague has cited data from Vermont Oxford Network that shows that the rate of neonatal intensive care unit for CLD at our unit is slightly lower than that on the national average. This indicates that our unit is doing an excellent job as much as there is room for improvement. In outlining the evidence, the presentation points out the NIPPV CAP method that is currently in use is weaker to the Bubble CPAP. It highlights the evidence that is contained in the reference of the books that have been used.
It proceeds to show how the Bubble CPAP is an effective and safe method of managing CPAP for neonates. The presentation further illustrates how the implementation of the Bubble CPAP helps in reducing the need for intubation and the CLD in neonates. The safety of the patients will be enhanced since the same will reduce complications that are associated with ventilator and intubation support (Agarwal et al, 2016). It further shows how the implementation of Bubble CPAP is beneficial not only to the hospital alone but the patients as it helps in the cutting down of costs.
As a manager of the team that is concerned with the quality management in our organization, I find this presentation in order. My colleague did indeed examine the various systems as he has backed that with references and data. I believe that the suggestion of switching to Bubble CPAP will help the unit to reduce the incidences of CLD further and thus improve the outcome of the patients (Agarwal et al, 2016). This is a topic that would, however, need further research.
Presentation Two
The second PowerPoint is titled, Reducing Infant Mortality in the Mahoning Valley. The presentation begins by defining infant mortality and giving the infant mortality rate in Ohio. The rate is significantly higher in the state as compared to the national average with a huge concern being drawn to the African American population. The author of this presentation has used photos of cute babies on the cover page and has presented the findings in a neat and easy to follow format.
The presentation has addressed the strategies that are critical in the reduction of infant mortality. The use of community-based educators, the promotion of safe sleeping and healthy living methods, and the hiring of community health workers have been floated as some of the strategies to be adopted.
The role that the community health workers are to play in the Mahoning Valley has been highlighted. This has been backed up by the nursing literature that shows that CHWs help in improving health outcomes and thus help in reducing infant mortality (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018). This is possible through the reduction of disparity and providing supportive services.
It also talks about the impact of the suggested strategies. The presentation points out providing education to more families, utilization of the available resources and encouraging prenatal care helps in reducing the infant mortality rate ((Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018).
The presentation partly convinces me that the appropriate systems that were examined and the identified outcomes are attainable. I believe that the suggested modifications to the systems will somewhat help in achieving the desired results. Other than the strategies that have been named, I believe that newborn screening and preconception care are the other strategies that will help in reducing infant mortality.
Presentation Three
The third presentation is titled Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Initiatives. It highlights the musculoskeletal disorders that are work-related in the nursing profession. The presentation has highlighted the impact of this condition which includes the early exit of nurses, reduced productivity, high costs of medical care, and high compensation costs. The presentation has broken down the WMSDs field to microsystems and macrosystems.
The study shows that most of the medics often experience WMSDs because of the awkward posture that they adopt when working. It further states that the repositioning of the patients using assistive devices can help in reducing the prevalence of this condition. The desired outcome as contained in the presentation is the reduction of lower back pain prevalence that is often linked with WMSDs (Gopal et al., 2012). The presentation points out that the use of an adjustable bed could help in achieving this outcome.
It further highlights the benefits that will be accrued by resolving the WMSDs. By preventing the WMDS, the welfare of the healthcare professionals will be improved thus their effectiveness. This will thus help in improving the medical care that the patients receive and also improve the safety of the patients.
Some of the suggested solutions are the modification of the workstation. The presentation points out that the installation of more adjustable beds will help in reducing the instances of WMSDs. Setting the patients bed to the lowest level when offering them with the medical assistance has also been fronted as one of the solutions. Last continuously educating the healthcare professionals of the benefits of altering the height of the bed help in preventing WMDs (Gopal et al., 2012).
The topic of study was adequately researched and presented. The presentation fully convinces me on the appropriate measures that are related to WMDs were examined. The identified outcomes which are the prevention of WMSDs are indeed attainable. The suggested modification to the systems offered will indeed result in the desired outcomes.
