Introduction
Setting up a quality medical school in the rural area of Bhutan, a developing country, will benefit the local people greatly. The institution will have a medical school offering quality surgical and medical education and a hospital. Below is a summary of the achievements and benefits the institution will bring to the community and the country.
Achievements
There will be an extension of a health facility where the local people will access excellent medical services at all times. This is a great achievement since the hospital will serve even the neighboring communities. The facility will be equipped with equipment of high technology that the doctors will use to attend to patients. The facility will have different departments such as the laboratories, the Intensive Care Unit, the wards, Mother-Child Health, among others. They people will also access quality surgical treatment from the medical school.
The medical school will be a learning institution open to students for the entire country. The school will be an institute of higher learning that will empower students with exceptional skills in the health sector (Jeans & Heseltine, 2014). The school will offer different medical courses such as Laboratory courses, Clinical medicine, Nursing, Health and safety courses, social work, and nutrition, among many others. Students from the whole will receive learning from the school and practice their careers in the hospital.
The institute will create enormous job opportunities for people from the local community and the whole country. Running a busy institute requires a lot of workers. Labor includes specialized trained doctors, nurses, cleaners, kitchen workers, security, administration, and other departments. These will help improve the living standards of the local community. They will be able to earn a living and support their families hence improving their means of life.
Setting up the learning institution will encourage the government to invest in the infrastructure connecting the hospital to other economic activities such as market areas (Jeans & Heseltine, 2014). These will help investors, who will construct houses, roads, business centers, and other institutions that will promote the growth of the economy. These will encourage social, economic growth in the community. Also, setting up the medical school will reduce the government's budget on students going to medical school outside the country,
Challenges
Challenges expected when setting up the facility include, shortage of health professional workforce. The facility will require each department to have highly skilled professionals to ensure success in its functions. Rural areas have very few physicians. The government will have to recruit both senior and junior staff from the international and local communities. Setting up the facility will require a lot of funds (Jeans & Heseltine, 2014). It is expensive to set up a quality Surgical and medical education in rural. The government should fully support the set up by funding the project to its completion. The institute will host a medical school and a hospital this will require billions of money. According to the administrator, interested investors are encouraged to invest in assisting in finish the construction in time.
Conclusion
Overcrowding, being the only medical facility in the rural areas, the hospital is likely to provide medical services to a more significant number of people than expected. These might lead to overcrowding and overworking practitioners who may result in inadequate medical services. Therefore the government needs to set up several other medical facilities to raise the medical services to patients.
