As a nurse working in an acute care facility, I find decision making the most important part of my service because it defines the success or failure of the care services we provide. Therefore, we give decision-making the utmost consideration. The reasoning strategies most often applied in my acute care nursing especially in the post-surgical care department is most evidence-based. Decision making usually involves information use (McCaughey, Thompson, Cullum, Sheldon & Raynor, 2005). Evidence-based decision making combines personal knowledge from experiences and evidence backed by theory and facts. For example, reasoning in this department involves taking into consideration patient preference and, research evidence against the backdrop of the hospital's available resources (O'Connor, 2001). In the acute care department reasoning strategies involves generating a set of alternative solutions or interventions strategies that have the potential of improving the quality of life, managing pain and making the patient experience better in the hospital. The second example is evidence-based decision making where a specific nurse uses clinical judgment in research evidence. The case nurse has to critically evaluate the research evidence without discussing with the others in case of time-constrained decisions and make a decision based on his or her evaluation of the most effective strategy (Masic, Miokovic, &, Muhamedagic, 2016). Therefore whether the clinical decision in the department involves group brainstorming or individual decision making, theory application in research evidence and critical evaluation is the guiding principles. Each evidence is critically explored and assigned weight before any decision is made. The decision is made based on both the internal and external validity of any evidence before it's adhered to

How can you apply reasoning strategies to the refinement of your EBP Assignment question?

The reasoning strategy will be applied to the refinement of the EBP question because I will have to integrate research evince into decision making by refining the research question I have formed previously formed to ensure that the question is focused in response to the identified information need, search a number of appropriate evidence that can potentially meet the need for pain management, and critically appraise the retrieve evidence. I will, therefore, refine my question based on the evidence available. Therefore, the EBP question would be refined to focus on specific types of pain (Thompson, 2004) whether hip pin or other types of pain to make sure that the pain management strategy is most effective and have minimal adverse effects
