When Would You Consult With the Nurse Informaticists?
A nurse can consult a nurse informatics specialist when she needs help with health IT issues such as files retrieval, reviewed, or stored, systems to be designed. The roles of the informaticists include leveraging technology in healthcare and health information technology. Whether it is in the acute care nursing, the ambulatory care or the research and academia, the nurse informatics focuses on promoting the adoption and the implementation of health IT. They may also design the health information technology in informing the healthcare professionals. Finlay, a nurse would consult with the nurse informatics when determining the end user requirements. The nurse liaises with the nurse informatics to discuss their user requirements to help in designing the same.
What Role Does the Nurse Informaticists Play in Primary Care?
In primary care, the nurse informaticists play a vital role in improving the quality of healthcare delivery. They also oversee the interoperability and the standards activities at the healthcare organizations. The nurse informaticists are in charge of overseeing physicians, Pharmacists, and clinical engineers as well as enterprise imaging specialists (Darvish, Bahramnezhad, Keyhanian & Navidhamidi, 2014). They promote patient-centered care thereby improving patient outcomes. The implementation of the electronic medical records helps in improving quality and safety of care through the coordinated team, improving diagnoses and timely information access. In the process, the chances of errors are reduced (Demiris & Zierler, 2010).
The nurse informaticists coordinates with the physicians, nurses and other hospital staff to discuss and find solution to issues related to patient care including training the other hospital staff on how to use health information technology, developing training manual and implementing the health IT training programs as well as provide end user support to the hospital staff on issues related to information technology. Finally, the nurse would also be in charge of helping the staff with issues such as data recovery, IT ethics, patient care, decision support systems, human-computer interaction, information system
What Qualifications and Credentialing Are Held by Nurse Informaticists?
The nurse informaticists must have a degree in nursing preferably bachelor's science in nursing. A nurse informatics specialist must have a license to practice as registered nurses (RN) in the respective state. The must have three or more years of clinical and patient care. The incumbent must have experienced is using hospital or the medical information systems (Demiris & Zierler, 2010). Nurse Informaticists must also have a wide range of skills necessary for critical thinking such as decisive judgment skills, ability to work under minimum supervision and ability to work in a high-pressure environment. The nurse informatics specialist must also be able to analyze problems, develop a solution and implement the solutions.
