Introduction
Nursing care involves caring for patients. Caring for someone involves understanding them, developing an empathetic feeling about them, creating a good relationship between the nurse and the patients and ensuring that the nurse understands his or her ability, feelings and emotions. This is very crucial in understanding the best steps or actions to take in case of any difficult situation during caring. Professional presence and influence are therefore critical in creating a conducive environment where patients feel comfortable and satisfied with how they are being handled (Regan, 2016). Such kind of nursing environment helps in developing a healing environment as compared to environments where patients do not feel part of. In order to ensure this, it is important for me as a nurse to understand patients' feelings, beliefs, needs and culture as they form the group which is being taken care of. In the nursing profession, being present influences a number of things which includes but not limited to the actions and decision taken by the nurse and the feeling of the patient.
It is important to build a strong relationship between the nurse and patients that helps in connecting them, building rapport, having a proper understanding of healing and improvements among other factors which can be used to describe the condition and desires of the patient. The carrier is also faced with a number of transformations and changes which requires the presence of the nurse to him adapt with how do handle various situations, technological status, ailments, and different kind of patients. It is notable that nursing care is about caring for people and in order for it to be successful proper social, technical and cultural understanding should form the basis of a nurse's professional capability (Johnson, 2012). Continuous experience and presence in the service not only affects the patients and makes them feel comfortable at the facility but also improves the nurse's ability to deliver his or her services and dispense the responsibility put before him or her in a proper and acceptable manner.
Professional Presence
Two Models of Health and Healing
The models of health and healing which are discussed in this part of the paper include Era 1 and Era 3. Era1 views the health and illness conditions as being physical or body states in nature. This means that they only affect the physical body of an individual. Era 1 view began since the 1800s. At this point, treatment was only based on the physical condition of the patient but left out psychological and emotional factors. It is also interesting to point out that the body in Era 1 was considered as a machine with body parts which are prone to wear and tear CITATION Cha09 \l 1033 (Chakkera, 2009). In this case, broken body parts were replaced either through biological means or scientific mechanisms. This was then followed by error three which put into consideration three key components, body, mind and soul. In Era 3, the boundless nature of mind was identified with an expression that it not only affects the body of a person but also has an impact on the body of a different person.
Difference Between ERA1 and ERA3
For a long time, there has been a clear transformation in the Eras of medicine with both Era 1 and Era 3 having closely related and connected with each other. However, there is a clear difference between Era 1 and Era 3 as analyzed in this section. It is critical to note that Era 1's main focus is the physical body, how it functions and therefore the healing is based on the physical and biological functioning of the body. It is the physical functioning and components that form the basis of how the body is supposed to be treated but not in any other manner. In this Era 1, the body is compared to a machine with parts which are susceptible to breakages and therefore should be fixed.
Era 3 on the other side brings a more comprehensive view of medicine or health care by adding in two more components of life, mind, and spirit besides the body. Era 3 outlines that the body can never be complete without including spirit and mind (Berwick, 2016). Therefore, nursing care must incorporate all aspects of the body which includes consciousness, caring, and feeling of unity and belonging as expressed in Watson's theory of nursing. Medicine, however, has undergone serious gradual changes from Era 1 more so in the twentieth century with the majority of medicine used today were designed in the early twentieth century by pharmacists. For instance, Era 1 treated mental illness through prefrontal lobotomy or shock therapy. My practice majorly revolves around Era 3 where the absence of a disease in the body does not mean the person is okay.
It also involves incorporating technological care into the use of drugs in providing proper care to the patients. It is not only just using drugs but cases like dietary practices, proper lifestyle, and comfort of the mind and the feeling of belonging forms key of the nursing practice from my experience (Chakkera, 2009). It, therefore, incorporates all techniques which can be used to promote the well-being of a patient. This can also include building religious faith and hope by inviting chaplains or religious leaders to spend time with patients and encourage them by giving them hope of recovery. This can include physical therapy, spiritual dance and gentle touch on patients as my most experience of involvement in nursing. As a nurse, I used it to critical illness, actively dying, fragile and anxious patients.
Influence on Nursing Practice
Presence and mindfulness are important concepts in the nursing profession which have gained substantial popularity. Understanding a nurse's personality, beliefs and culture are important because it acts as the first step towards understanding how the nurse's attitude and beliefs affect his or her performance at work, handling of patients. The most important objective to find ways of harmonizing the differences between personality, beliefs, patients' attitude and health condition with the nursing profession. The most important quality in such situations is to be an advocate of patients, have critical thinking ability and make the right decisions which are in line with the situation. This forms the basis of my nursing practice as a professional. In this scenario, a nurse should be guided by five fundamental frameworks developed by McCormack and McCann, the five attributes of the framework include, competence, proper interpersonal skills, job commitment and dedication, clarity of beliefs and self-knowledge (McCormack, 2015).
As a nurse, the practice should incorporate both Era1 and Era 3, that means stabilizing the body as well as ensuring the mind, emotions, and consciousness are also well taken care of. Being a patient's advocate as part of the nursing practice indicates that understanding patients emotions, mind, beliefs, culture and other psychological factors which can be used to improve on patients' experience in the facility. It is important to consider the beliefs, culture and physical needs of patients by ensuring that proper environment is put in place to ensure that patients' privacy and confidentiality is protected to make his mind and emotions stable. From my experience, stabilizing patients' physical conditions alone cannot make sense if their satisfaction to enable them to perform their daily spiritual activities like praying is not put into consideration. As such it important for the nurse to understand the mind of the patient by allowing him or her to express his or desires, discomfort and improvements he or she might think of in the care center.
Personality Preference
Personality Assessment Submission
Jung Personality Test is critical in determining the preference of someone. It provides self-assessment of a nurse that makes him or her develop an understanding of him or herself and also other people who are involved in their line of duty. The test provides four major traits which I possess. These include counselor, mastermind, inspector, and giver (Kelly, 2001). These tests are important in determining the rate at which a nurse can perform his duties, relate with others and also respond to specific conditions. This is the preferred test I took. The results are shown below.
This test involves determining how creative, imaginative and ideologists someone is. In such people, a lot of stimulation is necessary in order to understand and interact closely with others and the environment. Counselors always provide hope and optimism on patients and colleagues. This includes understanding the nature of tools which are put at their disposal; manipulates ideas and situations to look positive, understanding different conditions which encompass the environment being operated in. In this case, I realized that I am a counselor in the nursing field with high cognitive and grasping power.
Inspector however are organized and always follow some schedules in their lines of duty. They require proper guidelines to act as a framework in whatever they do. Framework acts as a major concern in their operations and responsibilities. Due to the fact that a guardian requires some logical flow of events and ideas, they are best suited as administrators, organizers of specific tasks or duties and foreseeing progress of tasks and activities in the system. This makes them the corner of events and organization. In this scenario, the test found out that I am relatively organized to form part of the organization.
Givers are always generous, social and extroverts. In most cases, they always require much talk a lot and likes interacting with others. Through this, they tend to figure the importance, significance, and meaning of nursing as a profession. They will always inquire about everything, air their views and seek explanations for why a particular action should be taken but not the other one. In this case, they are more excellent in unifying, individualizing and persuading others to take a particular root and forget about the other one. As such the mostly play roles such as mentors or advocates in society due to the fact that they also speak their minds.
Mastermind characters are always abstract oriented. They pay more attention to the knowledge, competence, and ability to do perform their duties. In this scenario, they are more interested in understanding how particular tasks should be carried out. They are stressed by the ability the fact that they cannot perform certain tasks or unable to do particular tasks. As such, they are critical in doing engineering or coordination tasks. According to the test, I had very little mastermind characters.
Test Results Analysis
The test results show that I am more giver but also possess characters such as mastermind and inspector, specifically protector. This is because I always tend to fight for the rights of patients and fellow nurses. It is the major reason why I am so adaptable to the situation where mindfulness of patients should be taken into consideration. I also tend to advocate for such patients so that their desires, culture, emotions, and beliefs are put into consideration. I am also capable of thinking critically and coming up with a comprehensive decision that helps solve the situation. Other than that, I am also in a position to coordinate the team and working a total collaboration with them. This is due to the fact that I have a clear understanding of other people regardless of their stature, cultural, beliefs, and desires.
Preference Alignment
My preference alignment is advocating and taking care of patients. This is due to my extrovert character which allows me to interact with both patients and colleagues. In this s...
