Introduction
On-the-job Training involves a technique where the workers are given instructions on how to perform various jobs on the actual work floor. Through the program, workers learn skills important and essential in the actual work conditions and also get familiarized to the work environment. Unemployment is still contributing to an effect with many people struggling to find a space in the labor force and investing more in training would be the best approach. The most effective methods of On-the-job Training include mentoring programs, job rotation, modules that are based on online training, and one-on-one training. Despite the fact that all the training methods aim at educating the employees on how to perform their jobs, they differ in their role and training techniques that are based on the context of the organization. The job training techniques in all the methods include continuous education elements.
The training enables to place the unemployed in permanent jobs where the trainees are hired into permanent employment receiving training from the employer. The trainee is usually a paid worker of a company. On the Job Training within the context of the human capital, the model is based upon a training agreement in order to determine who pays for the training in an organization and the beneficiaries. The agreement is usually between three people who include the Employer, the Trainee, and the OJT Agency. Among the three, the trainee who is supposed to provide training according to the terms of the provision is usually hired by the employer. Therefore, the trainee is required to have all the necessary work skills that will enable meet the work requirements. The OJT Agency is responsible for managing and overseeing the running of training under the agreement. The payments are made by the Agency after receiving the invoices from the employer after a satisfactory performance that is based on the terms and conditions of the training agreement.
Effects of Minimum Wages
Minimum wage has been proposed by policymakers as a way to raise incomes and changing the living ways of the people to the best and away from poverty. Improving the incomes as a result minimum wage affects others in a negative way. This is because employment opportunities are usually reduced by minimum and contributing to joblessness. Workers fail to benefit from the On-the-Job training opportunities that the reduced wages could have contributed to paying for it and thus resulting in higher wages later. In this case, we can use the example of the young people in the society who experience a lot of difficulties to find job opportunities and can only be supported by the social welfare system. When the youth are delayed to enter the labor market, their lifetime income stream of the unskilled workers is reduced (KalenKosKi 2016). In order to ensure that there are positive outcomes on minimum wages towards employment and income, minimum wage should be imposed in a way that it increases the revenue of employees especially if their work is not abridged in reaction to the minimum wage. Despite the proposal by policymakers that minimum wages are a means of raising the worker's incomes and changing their poverty levels, the minimum wage has some negative effects on employment. It is the responsibility of policymakers to understand the effects of minimum wages on the employees before the policies are implemented. For example, raising or imposing a minimum wage should lead to an increase in worker's wages.
