Nursing is a field that involves the collaborative and autonomous care of people of all age groups, families, communities, and groups. Nursing tries to prevent illness, promote people's health, and care for the sick dying and disabled individuals. The unique faction of the nurses is to care for the sick individuals and also determine or evaluate their specific response to their health status and to help them in performing the activities that contribute to their recovery. The aim of this study is to indicate the main reason why I want to be a nurse.
I want to be a nurse due to two main reasons that include; first, I want to help people in my community through some of the most vulnerable or critical moments in their health. Most people in the community tend to face numerous health challenges. Therefore they tend to need someone who is willing to listen to them, help them, and give them the needed attention. Not only do the nurses play the role of being a caretaker to the patients, but instead they can also be a friend, a trusted adviser, and a confidant to the patient; therefore it takes a special kind of a person to be in a position to perform all these roles the way nurses do. Since my childhood, empathy would take over my heart when I saw a friend suffering or crying due to a particular medical condition. In most cases, I would go over and comfort him or her and also offered my support, for instance, by calling an ambulance. On several occasions, I have accompanied a registered nurse to assist her administer healthcare treatment to the underserved children in our community. Being involved in such healthcare programs helped me realize or develop the passion of being a nurse so that I can also help other children.
The people that I wish to help most when I join this field are the kids; this is particularly because I tend to find myself connecting really well with the kids who have certain medical conditions. I also tend to develop much empathy when I see a child suffering due to a particular health condition. Last summer, I had a chance to be a camp counselor for the children who had various health conditions; this was a great eye-opener since it enabled me to know and understand the challenges that the children go through on a daily basis. I found myself well connected with them such that I was able to assist them get through the hard time they were experiencing. The interaction with those kids did not just act as an eye-opener; it has also helped me gain much experience.
Secondly, it is a first paced and exciting profession. In most cases, the working shifts and certain aspects of the job tend to finally become a routine, but the life of a nurse never gets boring. When working in a palliative care center or in private practice, one is always ready to just anything within a short period of time. I want to join this field since I want to join a fast-paced working environment whereby each day is a different day that requires one to figure out new ideas on how to help the sick individuals. Nursing is, therefore, a good choice for me since I tend to have the capability to work under huge pressure and also withstand craves excitements.
