Life is about enjoying the beauty of everything that you have. While it will have its difficulties, you would not have that push you need to keep going every day if it did not have bumps. You are bound to go through things that shape you, and that is why you are the person you are today. I am the person I am today, thanks to the experiences I have had in life.
My experience as a caregiver at Ability Plus influenced my personal growth. The work there shaped my attitude and perception of life. Ability Plus is a residential home for people with intellectual disabilities. They offer basic needs, comfort, and fulltime care. They rely on services from caregivers to assist the patients.
They also allow them to go out and have fun. We used to accompany patients on these trips. One such trip is called the day hab. Only patients who are healthy enough can go out. At day hab, we used to teach them things and interact with them. I loved working there; everyone was so friendly and nice.
This experience taught me a lot and opened my eyes to what I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. The patients that I had a pleasure to oversee were very high functioning. Since they have mental challenges, they require fulltime supervision.
They were three young men, 24, 22, and 28, when I left my position at the facility. Though they have gone through many challenges in life, they remain the happiest people I ever have interacted with in my life. It just saddens me to know that people that do not have disabilities have so many excuses and complaints. Even when we were created whole, we still do not appreciate what God gave on us.
We are truly blessed; God made us the way he did for a reason, and we should be happy with it no matter what. We should also never have to compare our lives to anyone else because we are all unique individuals. While this is true, we must all want the best for ourselves. No one can make you feel better if you do not want to see the good in you.
Yes, other people can help you, but you must do the work for yourself. I wanted to work as a caregiver because I have a deep passion for helping others. The experience was inspiring and enlightening. It showed me that I am truly blessed, and I should not complain about what I do not have.
It also showed me that I love to help people. I felt happy when I made others happy. I consider myself a selfless person, always looking to help and give back. There is no better feeling than knowing you were able to make a difference in someone's life. These clients loved us, and they were so happy to have us there. We were like their friends or family.
My goal in life is to make a difference in the lives of others. I want to give what I have received freely to others. My belief is that we need more kind people in this world-people willing to put a smile on others. I also want to be able to do something that I am passionate about for the rest of my life.
My experience at Ability Plus showed me what I want to do in life. It was an awesome all through. I would not trade it for anything in the world. It made me look at life a lot different and genuinely appreciate life itself and the little things that I have. I hope to make everyone feel the same every day of my life.
