When using APA style, one is supposed to use the past tense or even the present perfect tense to be able to paraphrase some of the statements that are obtained from other sources. One is supposed to follow the method that begins with the author, followed by the year. The name of the author is supposed to be the last then followed by the year in which he or she wrote or published the source. For instance, it can be written as (Jones, 1990). In most cases, APA style does not have provision for footnotes and endnotes as they are always costly when it comes to publication in the long run. Whenever one makes use of a footnote, the first thing to do is to make sure that the first number if formatted as a superscript which is supposed to be followed by a punctuation mark. The footnote numbers are supposed to be written in such a way that they follow the dashes and should also appear in the parenthesis that is in a sentence. Also, the usual paragraphing rules are supposed to be followed while writing the footnotes. The footnotes and endnotes provide supplemental information that one would want to know about the issues being handled in the entire document. In that case, they should be written clearly as some may use them to come up with a summary of the main content.
