In most cases as a team, we focus on the outcome and forget about other important goals that are necessary for success in a career. Sports are set in such a way that only those that attain a specific outcome are noticed and rewarded. However, focusing much on the outcome goals makes one forget the other important goals such as the performance and the process goals. From the video, an important lesson is that one should be able to balance between the different goals to attain the desired outcomes.

Q: How do you determine your performance goals?

Performance goals are determined by the outcome goals. To be able to achieve the outcomes in a competition one should prepare performance goals that make it possible to attain the ultimate goal in the competition. For instance, when the final goal is winning the overall game. The performance goals will be the ability to win the quarter-final and the semifinal matches.

Q: During a contest, did you stay focused on process goals? If not, how could you have improved that focus?

In the previous contests, the process goals were a non-issue and not given the necessary attention as goals. After listening to the video, one realizes that the process goals are very important especially because they ensure continuous improvement. To attain the process goals, the team should work out on the problems and failures realized after every contest which makes it possible to get it right in the future. The process goals can be achieved by assessing all the problems experienced and creating measures to correct the problems such as training and learning from the previous mistakes.

From the Season of Life text, answer the following questions:

Q: Read Exodus 34:5-7, how does "sin" or "dysfunctional behavior" get passed down from generation to generation?

Sin is passed from generation to generation due to lack of forgiveness and reflection on one's life. In Exodus 34: 5-7, God is portrayed as a merciful, loving and forgiving God but at the same time, the Bible notes that one's iniquities are passed on the children and their future generations. Therefore, sin is passed down from one generation to another due to the lack of repentance and the failure of the parents to lay a proper and righteous foundation for their children.

Q: How do you measure your masculinity/femininity as an athlete?

As an athlete, I measure my masculinity based on my ability to accept responsibility, believe in God, act justly and also remain courageous even in the face of sure defeat. Masculinity traits are essential especially as an athlete to assume the responsibility to steer the team forward and also to ensure my actions are just to others while expecting less from others and hoping for rewards from God.
