Introduction

Abortion has a long history. The practice started with Anglo-Saxon women in the eighteenth century with the fear that the immigrant population was rising with the then escalating birth rates. Ever since abortion has still remained to-date the biggest controversy pushing and pulling between legal corridors, social morality, and religious beliefs of preservation of life and human dignity. In many parts of the world abortion or termination of pregnancy has remained illegal and received the strongest terms of condemnations. However, it is essential to understand the reasons prompting many women to seek the available means to terminate pregnancies. Some of the circumstances women find themselves in like sexual assault, rape, deceit, or even unplanned pregnancies are some of the reasons they desperately need to end the life of the embryo in their body. Bringing to life unwanted babies means that the potential parents will lack the proper capacity to care and love them. It is, therefore, essential to only have babies when one is willing and ready to take care of and love them accordingly. Individual women should have the full right to decide whether they are fit to carry the embryo to term, go through childbirth or even raising a child. Legalizing abolition is giving women their practical right to decide whether or not to bear children.

Abortion should be legalized globally to protect the interests of women. Initially, women should be given the choice to freely decide whether they want to have children in relation to their personal attributes like age, relationship stability, financial ability, as well as personal obligations. Raising children requires social and emotional commitment, therefore, it is within individual obligations of the concerned couple to decide on whether or not they should have children. Therefore it is within personal limitations for the couple to choose whether or not to keep unwanted pregnancies. It is not within the legislative authority to decide whether or not every pregnancy should be brought to term because the decision is more personalized on the woman and her partner for they are supposed to obligate themselves to child-rearing among other parental responsibilities.

Illegalizing abortion is the key to many problems faced by modern women who struggle to fight for her freedom to choose her rights and obligations to have the unborn child brought to term. Therefore, when no decent abortion procedures are offered in specialized practitioner are licensed to carry out safe abortion procedures on women who feel they are not obligated to keep their unwanted pregnancies, women get back-street help from unqualified quacks endangering their lives. Statistics show that daily multiples of women die or are endangered by engaging in unsafe abortion conditions. Consequently, legalizing abortion will reduce this dangers and deaths and reduce the injuries associated with unsafe illegal abortion. Offering legal professional abortions will help women to access safe and informed decision making on the subjects of pregnancy termination. Qualified practitioners performing legalized and professionally fit abortion will benefit the women clients more than just the procedure of terminating unwanted pregnancies. They are in better positions to offer family planning options so as to avoid future inconveniences with unwanted pregnancies. Again, women undergoing the procedure are also exposed to reliable professional advice on matters regarding the reproductive health and fundamental rights and obligations on family life.

Holding the anti-abortion position because of social and religious beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions are vital threat to legal rights of women and the society at large. Legalization of abortion should start with awareness campaigns facilitated by feminist activists among other stakeholders to reduce the ignorance and arrogance of the orthodoxy perceptions held on the subject of abortion. Enlightening the masses on the safety of legal and professional abortion will reduce the population of teenage mothers, unmarried single mothers, poor women attributed to unintended pregnancies and unwanted babies. The level of socio-economic status of the masses will be predictable as long as women are not findings themselves in a fix when they get pregnant in uncalled for situations. Legislation of abortion laws should put into considerations that many women are drained into poverty when they start struggling with unplanned child rearing especially with irresponsible partners who distance themselves for the arising situation of unintended babies. It is only safe for the mother and the unwanted baby to part ways long before any damages are incurred. Many women who find themselves in these situations look for crude methods to terminate the pregnancy but end up dead or harmed by these procedures which would otherwise be saved when abortion was legalized and conducted safely in health facilities by professionals.

Conclusion

In summary, abortion should be legalized because making it illegal has not stopped women from all walks of life to terminate unwanted pregnancies. Making it illegal has only endangered the lives of women who seek alternative assistance from unqualified and quack practitioners who extort money for them out of their vulnerability and strong will to terminate the unintended pregnancies. Childbirth and parenting are important decisions that need a person to be prepared to take on the challenges and responsibilities that come in handy with parenting, therefore, when certain women find themselves in situations where they can end up having babies they had not planned for requires legislative consideration of their decision to keep or terminate the pregnancy. Thank you.
