Introduction
Due to the COVID 19 outbreak, RSPCA NSW is in the front line in taking the necessary measures to protect its staff and volunteers. The outbreak impact has caused changes in the operations of the organization.
The COVID-19 virus has caused the organization to make some changes to its operations. One of the impacts is the closure of all shelters and care centers until further notice. However, the shelters are only closed for the public; some staff members will be available to cater to the in care and incoming animals.
The veterinary hospitals will remain open, but adjustments on how consults are done will be adjusted. RSPCA has cleared the air and said that there should be no confusion to their clients since the virus is only transmitted from one human to the other. So far, no cases of animals have tested positive with the virus.
RSPCA has promised to find a loving home for the available animals.
Since the shelters are no longer open to the society, members who wish to adopt an animal from the organization are required to fill the adoption appointment request online and wait for their team to contact them.
The organization has also shown their care to the public by exercising social distancing and isolation. They have, therefore, canceled their physical event that was bound to take place during April (Australia, 2018). Also, the other community outreach events have been postponed to a later date that will be communicated through their social media platforms.
RSPCA have made sure that even with this pandemic, they still maintain their clients' trust. They have made sure that they are always available through their online platform where they answer questions and cater to and inquiries from their esteemed customers. The criteria have shown their concern to both the animals and clients (Howell et.al, 2020).
During this pandemic, the organizations have urged their client to support them in taking care of the animals as volunteers. They went ahead and gave an example of a volunteer who rescued a snake and drag that were traced in the neighboring towns. The pets also need their extra care to reduce the number of animals visiting the veterinary hospitals.
"Even if we are all being faced by the pandemic, there is no excuse to abandon an animal as there are always options to handle it." Michael Beatty, the media and community relations work in RSPCA, used this quote while urging people to give their support where necessary.
Classwork
After the Queensland border closure in the country, I was left with two questions
Why did the closure take long to be implemented?
What will happen to the Australian citizens who were to use the border to get back to the country?
The story is quite important as it explains the measures that the government is taking to ensure that the citizens are protected. However, it may concern that the citizens will be locked out of the country, yet they did not know about the closure before they visited the neighboring countries.
The pandemic indeed needs to handle more seriously, but that is not the fault of the people using the border to do business and other activities. As a journalist, I would like to do a follow up for this story to understand what will happen to the citizens who will be affected by these measures.
