Introduction
The application of information technology is essential in the transformation of the healthcare system including treatment processes as well as the delivery of education and training processes not only to the nurses but to the medical professionals in general. With the emergence of information technology, conducting of the training programs has become easier since healthcare management can use different computer programs to train nurses in various issues about the medical treatments (Huang, Lin, & Chuang, 2007). With technology, learning has become easier as there are numerous devices, including a personal computer and mobile phones that improve access to information. Besides, there is the internet that incorporates social media sites where training programs can be conducted.
The target audience is the nursing professionals who are in charge of patients who have dementia in different health care settings (Laranjo et al., 2018). Dementia is an overall term often used to describe a decline in the mental ability severe enough to hamper daily memory. For instance, there may be a memory loss among the individuals affected. In many cases, Alzheimer's is a common type of dementia. Dementia is not a particular disease, but rather, it is a general term used to describe the group of symptoms related to the decline in memory, as well as other thinking skills that can reduce an individual's ability to take part in daily activities.
Educating Nurses In Charge Of Patients Suffering From Dementia
With the increasing number of older people, there is an increased demand for nurses whose skills and capabilities are relevant to the demands of complications associated with dementia. The complications that arise due to the nature of various dementia conditions require continuous and elaborate education and training to the nurses. The dynamism in the acquisition of knowledge enables nurses to gain knowledge and confidence to achieve effective patient outcomes. The increase in the use of information technology, therefore, facilitate the education programs and training services to boost the skill and knowledge of nurses.
Methods of Information Technology in Delivering Education
Internet Technology and computer programs
The increase in networking and internet connectivity has a great significance in nursing education (The Medical Futurist, 2015). Computer networking has provided an effective platform for integrating different teaching methodologies aimed at boosting nurse's skills when it comes to caring for patients with dementia. The application of internet, as well as the computer programs that relates to the medical practices, has demonstrated the potentials when it comes to the provision of enhanced education programs as well as the learning opportunities for the nurses that are caring for patients with dementia (Laranjo et al., 2018). With the increase in the number so mobile programs as well as internet connectivity, educators can provide learning materials with multiple contexts. In addition, with the increased internet connectivity, educators are able to provide continuous learning processes to the nurses even as they undertake their duties in different hospitals or healthcare settings.
Computer Simulations
Computer simulations play essential roles in nursing practices. Specifically, it enhances learning processes as well as the provision of new ideas in different fields of nursing. In most cases, educators apply computer simulations to train nurses on various nursing practices, especially to the care of patients who have dementia. Computer simulations lead to the development of multiple scenarios for assessing the skills and knowledge of the nurses involved in taking responsibility of the patients with dementia (Laranjo et al., 2018). Computer simulation plays significant roles when it comes to the assessment of the capabilities and skills of the nurses. They are also used to teach nurses the emergence of different medical practices (Scott, 2018).
Evidence-Based Literature
The evidenced-based practices in nursing require elaborate training, a situation that may boost knowledge, capabilities, and skills among the nurses (Scott, 2018). The application of internet technology and computer programs enhances nursing education in various fields. The internet provides opportunities to strengthen interaction and sharing of information on online platforms (Scott, 2018). In addition, the online presence promotes access to information on the emergence practices in nursing, specifically to the nurses who care for patients with dementia. In addition, the application of simulation in training nurses promotes effectiveness in the learning outcomes, it also allows more nurses to gain skills with the aim of enhancing the provision of care to more patients suffering from dementia. With the information technology, education plans for nurses can deliver relevant information, including therapeutic approaches in the treatment of people with dementia, risk management as well as psychological interventions.
Evaluating Learning Objective Effectiveness
The effectiveness of computer programs and internet as approaches for educating nurses
Enhances patient outcomes and quality care delivery. Through the education programs, nurses boost their skill, and these technologies also make it easier for one to access information and the relevant knowledge required in the actual nursing practice (The Medical Futurist, 2015). With the technological tools, teachers or educators can access the skills and recommend different medical professionals based on their capabilities as well as the skills.
Conclusion
In the current information age, the internet has become an excellent resource for learners, especially those in the medical setting. The application of technology in delivering information and teaching programs to the nurses and medical practitioners is essential when it comes to the achievement of evidence-based practices. The application of internet services can ensure part-time training and education. The use of Skype and other social media platforms can enhance the acquisition of knowledge regarding the emergence of different clinical approaches in the treatment of patients with dementia.
