Artificial intelligence sometimes referred to as machine intelligence is any behavior that is signified by a machine as it attempts to mimic or perceive its environment and attempts to act to achieve its stated goals. Machine intelligence has attracted the attention of leaders, scientists and technology, for example, Elon Musk who support the artificial intelligence initiative through funding as he says it is the future but it must be regulated since it may turn out to become a threat to the human race. Mark Zuckerberg the Facebook founder stated that artificial intelligence will make the lives of individuals better as it will be able to carry out tasks that were not previously carried out by human beings in a faster and more efficient manner. Through such reviews by influential characters in the tech world, what does AI mean to mankind, is it an advantage now or a disadvantage in the future.

The AI was first discussed and emulated in science fiction movies, for example, the wizard of OZ in the 20th century. Apart from this role by the film industry in the development of AI, an England mathematician by the name Alan Turing developed a theory in his paper in 1950 which highlighted that human beings used the available information in books and journals to solve day to day problems so why couldn't machines also emulate the same method. This analogy was, however, challenging for Turing to apply in his world since computers in the 20th century could not store commands, they only executed the commands. The idea was possible from the first perception with the only setbacks being technological innovation and the expensive nature of computing technology at the time.

Aside from the history of AI showing that human beings had perceived the idea being successful, since then it has achieved recent developments in different fields, for example, agriculture, healthcare and medical industries. In the medical industry, engineers and technologists have developed algorithms as well as, robots which assist outpatients and the aged to keep track of their daily health records in a systematic manner also. Sensors and transducers have also been incorporated in recent Volvo trucks that work hand in hand with other systems in the vehicle to achieve braking on the event of an emergency. With this technology, people have been able to evade accidents and further development in the automotive sector will lead the technology to autonomous driverless vehicles.

Artificial intelligence in simpler applications allows simple decision-making procedures, for example, summarizing texts and setting up face recognition from elements present on the face of an individual. AI also enables machine learning where the machines could attain features using their microphones to recognize speech from the input section, master patterns and also dodge obstacles. Through such developments in artificial intelligence made in 2017, AI teams have been able to develop mind games which could be played with computers for example chess. Apart from this, AI systems have been able to capture different reactions from people and store the reactions to different situations in their allocated memory hence recording behavioral characteristics of human beings making them capable of executing reactions of happiness and empathy.

Concerns about artificial intelligence development never slowing down have attracted the reviews of various individuals and institutions. In a broader perspective, the Forbes magazine analyzed the potential harm that could be anticipated in the continued pursuit for AI is the complete absolution of human effort leading to massive unemployment. In many cases, hackers could use the technology in phishing which useful and personal biodata leading to the exposure of classified information or the blocking of accounts that could be important for both personal and national security. Also, when the technology is implemented in financial institutions there could be a probability of the creation of clone AI by hackers and malicious individuals which could be used in extortion. If the technology of facial recognition which is AI-based is used in military operations, this could make the weapons more destructive. In a nutshell, the embracing of AI could be lethal and at the same time advantageous.

AI technology still faces some limitation as its development and exposure to information is only to what the designer of the technology chooses to expose it to. The programmed AI only performs tasks that they are required to do. Cost of development and maintenance of the technology is quite high as it requires the employment of highly educated and masters in technology. AI machines also require supervision in the tasks that they are given hence they have not attained the post-conventional status which can be compared with human development.

Conclusion

In conclusion, artificial intelligence could be adopted in various areas that could impact the livelihoods of the human race positively. However, the rise in the usage of the internet and innovation in the technology of artificial intelligence brings about uncertainties in the extent to which the technology will go. In case the technology finds its ways into malicious hands, then it means that the technology could be used for bad activities. It is therefore recommended that AI technology is regulated by a certain body which can be formed by specialists in the technology such that any progress in the development of the faculty is reported and analyzed whether it is beneficial, otherwise under regulation may cause fatal effects.
