Introduction
For several decades, the teaching of vocabulary in Saudi Arabia become a sensation, especially when dealing with children. In learning institutions, children are required to learn different vocabularies, and this promotes their ability to connect to the world (Zafar et al., 2014). Vocabularies are perceived to be a strong and influential bearing of learning foreign languages (Alsaleem, 2013). When learning foreign languages, a large number of Saudis children get bored easier, especially when teachers use old techniques of learning (Alshehri, 2014). As a way of promoting the learning of vocabularies, most institutions are nowadays integrating digital media. A video game has become one of the most popular digital media that is highly used by Saudis (Zafar et al., 2014). The system gives learners an opportunity to interact and learn vocabularies even when they are away from school. Through technology, children have shown a positive attitude toward learning and understanding new vocabularies (Alsaleem, 2013). The research paper aims at examining how video games impact the learning of vocabularies among Saudi students.
Research Issue
In the world, language has become a critical aspect that influences how people live and interact. In Arabic countries, a large number of people highly value their language, and this makes it challenging when learning foreign languages (Zafar et al., 2014). Due to the concept, a large number of Saudi learners continue to experience challenges in understanding foreign vocabularies (Alsaleem, 2013). As a way of countering the issue, different schools across the region deploy different forms of technology that enhances the learning of vocabularies. These technology systems have positively impacted learning as it has introduced other concepts such as social interactions, which are critical in understanding vocabularies.
Justification
Usually, gaming is a feature of human nature, and the approach has highly changed the interactivities in educational settings. As such, video games provide learners with virtual aspects that promote learning. In video games, visual scenes provide learners with an interactivity approach that impacts their ability to learn foreign vocabularies (Zafar et al., 2014). Some games contain animations that support vocabulary acquisition process, which improves overall learning (Alshehri, 2014). Scientifically, the application of video games has been associated with the improvement of children’s mental and physical abilities, which forms the base for learning and understanding new concepts (Alsaleem, 2013). As such, learners acquire particular skills, which promote problem-solving thus, enhancing understanding of new vocabularies. Therefore, video games have a great impact on the learning of vocabularies among Saudi students.
